The long-running hit comedy Jewtopia, will play its final performance on Sunday, April 29 at 3:00PM. The Off-Broadway show, written by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson, began previews in New York September 28, 2004, and opened on October 21. This followed a 16-month sold-out run at West Hollywood's Coast Playhouse, where it still holds the record as Los Angeles' longest-running comedy. At the conclusion of its Off-Broadway run, Jewtopia will have played 1,079 performances (27 previews, 1,052 regular performances). Productions are scheduled to open in Tampa and Toronto in Fall 2007.
Jewtopia recouped its entire investment Off-Broadway in 20 weeks and spawned productions in both
Chicago and South Florida. In September of 2006 Fogel and Wolfson celebrated the Warner Books publication of fully illustrated coffee-table book
Jewtopia, The Chosen Book for the Chosen People, and the duo recently completed writing a TV pilot, "Middletown," and are working on a film version of Jewtopia entitled
Lipschitz and O'Connell Lose their Religion.
Press notes state, "
Jewtopia tells the story of two single guys, Chris O'Connell and Adam Lipschitz. Chris, a gentile, wants to marry a Jewish girl so that he'll never have to make another decision for the rest of his life. Adam, a Jew under pressure from his family to marry a Jewish girl, wonders what Chris is thinking. Customs clash and stereotypes collide as this outrageous comedy unfolds." Tony nominee
John Tillinger directs a cast that includes Lorry Goldman, Josh Heine, Vanessa Lemonides, Becky London, Rosanne Ma, Jeremy Rishe and Joel Rooks.
