Jeremy Schonfeld will be bringing his exciting hybrid brand of rock/theatrical pianoman storytelling to the Pub for one night only! Featuring music from his just-released, highly-acclaimed new concept album "Iron & Coal", plus additional new arrangements of favorites from "Drift", "37 Notebooks", and "Blue Skies and All", this will be a night you won't want to miss! The evening will feature special guests Lilli Cooper (Spring Awakening), Adam Kantor (Rent), and Morgan James (Godspell), plus an All-Star 'Spiderman' band featuring Jon Clancy (drums), Richard Hammond (bass), Matt Beck (guitars, keyboard), and Ben Butler (guitar). Schonfeld has contributed original music for numerous benefit concerts including Defying Inequality, Broadway in South Africa, The Pink Campaign on Broadway and Broadway for a New America, among others. He has performed at Madison Square Garden, Birdland, Joe’s Pub, BB Kings, The Public Theatre, Symphony Space, Lincoln Center, the Upright Cabaret in Los Angeles and 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta, as well as in Boston University’s “BU on Broadway” series.

Scars on 45, a quintet from Leeds, England, combines the gentle melodic intensity of bands like Snow Patrol, Coldplay, and Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals. Tension, often propelled by drummer Chris Durling's insistent beat, builds throughout the songs as the emotional ante rises. After years struggling to make a name in England, the band rose from obscurity when their song “Beauty’s Running Wild” was featured in an episode of CSI: New York. The band was signed to Atlantic’s Chop Shop Records label, which has been successful in getting previously unsigned bands heard through song placements in popular TV programs. Anya Marina is a singer-songwriter based in San Diego, California. Her music has primarily gained notice after being on a variety of television sitcoms and has been featured on prime time dramas including ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy', CBS's "How I Met Your Mother", MTV's "The Real World", ABC's "Castle", Showtime's "United States of Tara", CW's "Gossip Girl", "The Vampire Diaries", and "Supernatural". Her song "Satellite Heart" was featured on the New Moon soundtrack. "Satellite Heart" was released in 2009, and she performed the song at multiple venues on the nationwide 'New Moon Talent Tour'. Marina co-hosted the live MySpace broadcast of the New Moon premiere, and was highlighted in an article by CNN.com as an artist poised on The Edge of breakout success due to her involvement in the soundtrack.

The consistently sold out, Happy Ending Music and Reading Series, chosen by New York Magazine and NY Press as the best reading series in NYC, and singled out by the New York Times Magazine for helping to "Keep downtown alive," features the most interesting storytellers, writers, musicians, raconteurs and personalities, and requires the readers to take one public risk, while the musicians, who perform two short sets with their original, lyric-driven music, are required to play one cover song and try to get the audience to sing along. Adam Levy is best known for his tenure as the featured guitarist in Norah Jones' Handsome Band. He played on her breakout 2002 disk Come Away with Me, her '04 follow-up Feels Like Home, and her latest CD Not Too Late. In his downtime between steady gigs with Jones, Levy has been onstage and/or in the studio with Rosanne Cash, Amos Lee, M. Ward, and up-and-coming Aussie artist Eran James. In addition to Levy's skills as a player, he is a gifted songwriter. He penned "In the Morning" for Jones' Feels Like Home, and other artists have recorded his songs as well. There's no doubt, though, that the best way to hear Levy's folk/pop/blues gems is straight from the source. The Mastersons formed in 2006 but have collectively spent more than a lifetime (six decades) making and performing music. Both children of musical families in Texas, they were handed instruments before they could walk. Eleanor, a cracker-jack violin. Chris, a guitar. The universe so picking their fates that 20 odd years later, backstage at a festival, lighting would strike. They were fans of each other's music before they were anything else. For two youngsters, the list of artists they’ve performed with is staggering: Steve Earle, Son Volt, Diana Ross, Regina Spector, Angus and Julia Stone, Allison Moorer, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison, Shooter Jennings, Hank Williams III, Bobby Bare Jr. and Jack Ingram. Much of the commentary about Darrell Scott’s career has focused on the songs he’s written that have been recorded by famous names and voices – those known in music industry parlance as “artists.” But then there’s the actual word artist, whose definition has nothing to do with radio hits and red carpets. We refer of course to those who create artifacts of aesthetic and intellectual contemplation and wonder, built from experience, skill, reflection and emotional intent. That’s an artist. And that, at the end of the day, is Darrell Scott. This is made abundantly clear on A Crooked Road, Scott’s sixth solo studio album. Recorded at home and entirely performed by Scott on a variety of instruments, A Crooked Road falls somewhere between a carefully crafted memoir and an arresting breach of privacy.

Only a boisterous, irreverent musical comedy with singing and dancing CIA agents could tell the true story of how we started the Iraq War. Prissy pundits, bickering bureaucrats and a dissolute defector get medals for their supporting roles. Our story follows three main characters, an amalgam of people real and fictional, from 2001 - 2003. Richart, an ambitious German junior secret agent catches a prize defector who will become the CIA source on WMD. Nelson, a CIA analyst in Langley, can't get anyone to see the flaws in the story. The third character is journalist David Kay, who declared mistakenly on NBC that mobile germ labs had been found in Iraq, and was rewarded with a special assignment from George Tenet himself. This is the story behind the story, the one you never really heard, told with humor, music, and good old fashioned show biz panache. Inspired by vaudeville and silent film, this evening length work capitalizes on the possibility that anything can happen during a live show. Performers Monica Bill Barnes and Anna Bass attempt to tackle the tribulations of showmanship and stage fright as unexpected interruptions send the show spinning off in new directions. Joe's Pub presents three of the most innovative musicians working in contemporary classical music, together on one bill, in a night that promises to explore the new common ground at the crossroads of classical and electronica. New York's "daredevil" digital-violinist Todd Reynolds , whose recent album Outerborough was named Amazon's Best Classical release of 2011 continues to infect the New York and international music scene with a passion borne of rock n roll and a sensibility which any 'new music afficionado' can appreciate. The Bang on a Can and Steve Reich violinist will perform a work or two from Outerborough and interface in remixed conversations with his London counterparts. Peter Gregson, described by The New Yorker as 'at the forefront of the new music scene', is a British cellist who has collaborated with Tod Machover and Max Richter, among many other luminaries. He will be marking the first US performance of Nonclassical's latest release, Cello Multitracks (written by Gabriel Prokofiev), which he premiered in London in 2011. Gabriel Prokofiev, who is also in the US for the world premiere of his latest orchestral work, has gained a unique status as an innovative, far-reaching figure within British contemporary music. His work as a composer has brought instruments such as turntables, electric guitars, and oil drums, to high profile concerts including the BBC Proms, earning him critical acclaim in the process. Meanwhile, as a DJ Prokofiev has carved a singular reputation, playing to audiences at the New York Met and around the world, combining his background in urban music production with a passion for 20th and 21st century classical music.

For Pat McGee, there is no wrong way to make music as long as you’re making it. This Virginia native has found his niche making this his most personal record yet. ‘No Wrong Way to Make a Right” from its inception, has not been without struggle and sums up a lot of issues McGee had previously shied away from. However, he stays true to the melody and lyrics that seem to come so naturally to him. With this album McGee’s has seem to find the genre he is most comfortable in, creating a record that is the most genuine and heartfelt record that strips McGee to the core and brings to light where his heart lies, in the music.

Laura Veirs grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and listened to folk, country, classical and pop music around the house and on the radio during her youth. She put out her own self-titled album Laura Veirs, recorded live and featuring just her and guitar, in 1999. She has since made five highly acclaimed records with producer Tucker Martine. 2003 saw the release of Troubled by the Fire, a full-band effort that found the artist sharing the studio with such luminaries as Bill Frisell and violist Eyvind Kang. She signed to Nonesuch Records the following year with the atmospheric follow-up Carbon Glacier. Year of Meteors followed in August 2005. She collaborated with The Decemberists on “Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)”, from their 2006 album The Crane Wife. Her sixth record, Saltbreakers, was released worldwide on Nonesuch Records in April 2007. Veirs’ seventh album, July Flame, was released in January 2010 on her own record label, Raven Marching Band Records (in North America) and on Bella Union (in Europe and the rest of the world). Veirs tours frequently in Europe, North America and Australia both solo and with a backing band consisting of a rotating cast including Karl Blau, Steve Moore, Tucker Martine, Keeley Boyle, Nelson Kempf, Eric Anderson, Kate O’Brien-Clarke and Alex Guy.

LAURA VEIRS & THE TUMBLE BEES

“Tumble Bee”, the first children’s record from the prolific Laura Veirs (whose last release, July Flame, was dubbed “a perfect Sunday afternoon record” by The Oxford American and “sweet and irresistible” by Rolling Stone) inspires listeners to lean in close and hit replay. The youthful innocence in Veirs’ voice lends itself well to the jaunty spirit of the album. The recording covers a wide range of folk songs, from early 20th century work songs to the ballads of Jimmie Rodgers, Woody Guthrie, Peggy Seeger and Harry Belafonte.

TAYLOR MAC: THE 1910’S

Taylor Mac and band are working on a 24-hour concert called "The History of Popular Music" to be performed in the spring of 2013, which will consist of over three hundred songs from the last twenty- four decades. He's using Joe's Pub gigs to learn and perform some of the material for the first time (he premiered the 1970's, 1930's and 1880's in Oct/Nov). For this performance he'll be singing songs from the 1920's. He is a playwright, actor, singer-songwriter, and sometime director and producer. Time Out New York has called him, “One of the most exciting theater artists of our time” and American Theater Magazine says, “Mac is one of this country’s most heroic and disarmingly funny playwrights.”
