On December 30th at 10 PM, Jennifer Hudson - who has earned awards and Oscar buzz for her turn in the Dreamgirls film - will perform in a solo concert at Hammerstein Ballroom (311 W. 34th St.).
Hudson plays Effie in
Bill Condon's screen adaptation of
Dreamgirls, which will open in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. Produced by Dreamworks, directed and adapted by Condon (from Tom Eyen's book), and featuring music by Henry Krieger and lyrics by Eyen,
Dreamgirls also stars
Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy,
Jamie Foxx and
Anika Noni Rose.
The "One Night Only:
Dreamgirls" concert will feature the star performing songs from
Dreamgirls, as well as reprising a number of songs from her "American Idol" days. A dance party (with a number of exclusive
Dreamgirls remixes) will follow the concert. There will be a "DANCESURROUND" light and video show, performaces by nightclub stars, and a "Supreme Runway Competition."
A finalist on the third season of "American Idol," Hudson has also been seen in the Actors' Fund benefit concert of
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She has won a bevy of critical awards for her
Dreamgirls performance, and is currently nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
