A beloved, award winning veteran of the NYC music scene, Rob Kevlin has wowed audiences everywhere from Swing 46, the Metropolitan Room, the Master Theatre, and Carnegie Hall. Now, "It's a New Day" for the multi-talented singer and performer, who makes his highly anticipated debut at Feinstein's/54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, on Friday, February 22, 2019.
Kevlin takes the stage at 9:30 p.m. The venue is located at 254 W. 54th Street.
He titled the show "It's A New Day" after his critically acclaimed debut album, which showcases his soulful, emotionally powerful tone and breathtaking vocals on a set filled with new songs by renowned songwriters and fresh, hipster arrangements of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Feeling Good."
The performance, which will be the centerpiece of the official CD release party, will include popular audience favorites from the album ("Shined On Me," "Just Because You Walk Away," "Mesmerized" and the title track), in addition to Great American Songbook standards, the inspirational "This Is The Moment" (from the Broadway musical "Jekyll & Hyde") and "This is Me," the Oscar nominated anthem from "The Greatest Showman."
"The opportunity to perform at Feinstein's/54 Below is very exciting to me," says Kevlin. "It's a prestigious venue where many Broadway stars have performed, and it's a true honor to have the opportunity to be on that stage. More recently in my career, I played concerts with vocalist Kathy Jenkins and the Rob Stoneback Big Band, which has backed greats like Aretha Franklin and Johnny Mathis - but this will be a much more intimate solo concert, with just a drummer, a bassist, pianist and globally renowned saxophonist Yaacov Mayman."
Guest singers include singer, actress, and Big Band vocalist, Kathy Jenkins and Jennifer Holliday who catapulted to stardom nearly 40 years ago in her iconic role as the original Effie White in the smash Broadway production of "Dreamgirls". Her show-stopping performance of "And I am Telling You, I'm Not Going" garnered her a Tony Award for "Best Actress In A Musical." Ms. Holliday has enjoyed a successful recording career, which includes winning her second Grammy Award for her rendition of Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday, several R &B Top Ten Hit Records, two Number One Dance Hit Records, and a Top Twenty Billboard's R&B charting album The Song Is You. Ms. Holliday made a triumphant return to Broadway starring as Shug Avery in the Tony Award winning musical revival production of The Color Purple (2016-2017).
Kate Merlino, Former Senior Publicity Manager at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, captures Kevlin's essence best when she says, "He has the voice, looks and stage presence, but what makes him special is how he connects with an audience. It's a warmth that can't be taught, and it is what makes Kevlin stand out from the crowd."
In addition to the top line previously mentioned venues, the Brooklyn born, New Jersey raised singer has brought those magical qualities to Iguana and Davidzon Radio and is an International Trophy Winner of the USA World Showcase. He has graced the concert stage numerous times with virtuoso pianist Leonid Ptashka and renowned violinist, Sanya Kroitor. Kevlin was also honored to perform with Russian legend, Aida Vedisheva, for her Hurricane Sandy Fundraising Gala, "Come On, Support, New York, New York," from the Writers Guild Theatre in California hosted by Rachel Reenstra from ABC television. He was presented with the Singing Liberty Award for his dedication and generous support of the victims of the Superstorm SANDY on its first anniversary. In addition, he has performed as a vocalist with Igor Butman's big band and performed with the Rob Stoneback Big Band in a show called "Swing Out America!" as part of the HOT SUMMER NIGHTS free outdoor concert series at the Brooklyn based Stage at Kingsborough
Kevlin's theatre credits include starring in "Jekyll and Hyde," "The Sound of Music" at the Algonquin Theater and performing at the Triad, where he starred in his own Off-Broadway Cabaret Theatre show that was featured on "Time Out," a celebrity international television news program broadcast in 19 countries and that reaches over 50 million people. He has also been interviewed by Bloomberg TV correspondent Melike Ayan and has appeared on NTV, MTV and VH1.
