Jazz Pianist Ben Rosenblum Celebrates RIVER CITY At The Kitano On Nov. 10 Image

Award-winning jazz pianist and composer Ben Rosenblum will celebrate his second album as bandleader, River City, with a New York City CD release performance at the acclaimed jazz club, Kitano, in two sets, on Saturday, November 10th. Rosenblum has been described as "mature beyond his years" (Jon Neudorf, Sea of Tranquility) and his debut album, Instead, was awarded four stars by DownBeat Magazine. Rosenblum's sophomore album, which features his original compositions and arrangements, has already been called "well-realized" and "richly romantic" by JAZZIZ Magazine. His original music combines an extensive knowledge of the history of jazz with his free-wheeling, modern melodic sensibility and powerful narrative approach to the piano. His profound passion for jazz, swing and world music finds expression in his unique fusion of harmonic and rhythmic elements from a wide array of sources, and gives rise to a signature compositional sound and style at once iconoclastic and deeply rooted in such figures as Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly. The Kitano shows will feature material from the new album, as well as recent originals and favorites from the trio's previous tours.

There do emerge conservatoire aces with grit in their imaginations and a facility to express such in their playing. Ben Rosenblum is one such performer/composer. (All About Jazz)

Material from River City was premiered in Japan in May of this year as part of an extended tour. The tracks include both original compositions and arrangements, and feature Rosenblum's regular working trio (Kanoa Mendenhall on bass and Ben Zweig on drums). In addition to touring Japan, the trio has recently finished tours in Canada, the Midwest, the West Coast and the Northeast. Rosenblum is currently scheduled to tour the States and Canada with his trio in the Fall and Winter to celebrate the album's release, including dates at Ravinia's Bennett Gordon Hall (in Chicago), Soper Reese Theatre (California), San Luis Obispo Jazz Society (California) and a special performance at the University of Tampa (Florida). Rosenblum has played major venues throughout the US, including as the featured soloist at Carnegie Hall's Stern-Perelman Auditorium and at Lincoln Center, as well as numerous jazz festivals and venues throughout the US.

The Kitano is located at 66 Park Avenue, East 38th St. Tickets: can be purchased at: www.kitano.com/Jazz-Schedule or call 212-885-7119.
