Jason Robert Brown, backed up by the Caucasian Rhythm Kings, will perform at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood for two shows only--at 8 PM on Friday, June
10th and Saturday, June 11th.
The Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist will be making a return engagement after having recently played a sold-out concert at the LA venue. Brown will support sales of his new CD, Wearing Someone Else';s Clothes" (which will be released June 28 on Sh-K-Boom Records), and will perform songs from his show, Songs For A New World, The Last 5
Years and Parade, as well as from his upcoming world premiere musicals
Honeymoon In Vegas and 13.
Brown, according to the show's press release, "has been hailed by the Philadelphia Inquirer as 'the
"smartest and most sophisticated Broadway songwriter since Stephen
Sondheim'." His '"extraordinary, jubilant theatre music"' (Chicago
Tribune) has been heard all over the world, whether in one of the
hundreds of productions of his musicals every year or in his own
incendiary live performances."
Brown's The Last 5 Years,
which was cited as one of Time Magazine's "10 Best of 2001," won
Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics. Brown won a 1999 Tony
Award for his score to Parade, a musical written with Alfred Uhry and
directed by Harold Prince, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in
December 1998, subsequently winning both the Drama Desk and New York
Drama Critics' Circle Awards for Best New Musical. Parade was also
presented on a National Tour in 2000, which Brown conducted. Songs for
a New World opened Off-Broadway at the WPA Theatre in the fall of 1995,
and has since been seen in more than two hundred productions around the
world.
