Chinese and western instruments burn up their bows in a fiery frenzy of playing during Jason Kao Hwang's Burning Bridge at Flushing Town Hall. Then again, who would expect anything less than instant ignition when Hwang, the internationally recognized violinist and composer, collaborates with his EDGE quartet (violin, drums, string bass, cornet) plus Four (erhu, pipa, trombone and tuba)? Based on the celebrated album of the same name, Burning Bridge sets ablaze the so-called boundaries of cultural identity and, in the resulting heat, forges a gorgeous blend of classical, jazz, and traditional Chinese music.

Featuring:
Jason Kao Hwang, composer, violin
Andrew Drury, drums
Ken Filiano, string bass
Wang Guowei, erhu
Sun Li, pipa
Steve Swell, trombone
Joe Daley, tuba
Herb Robertson, trumpet
