Stage and screen star Jason Alexander, who was recently announced as the new artistic director for Reprise! Broadway's Best in Los Angeles, will honor Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Founding Director John Mauceri at the 2007 Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame Concert on June 22.
Along with Mauceri, tenor Placido Domingo will also be honored at the Bowl's season opening event, as both artists will be inducted into the venue's Hall of Fame. The evening is set up as a benefit concert for Music Matters, the Los Angeles Philharmonic's music education programs.
Alexander is scheduled to perform a medley of Broadway musical numbers that have been conducted by Mauceri during his tenure at the Bowl, including songs from
Carousel, Show Boat, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Mame, Camelot and
The Sound of Music.
Domingo and Mauceri join the distinguished company of past inductees John Williams, Garth Brooks, Marilyn Horne, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt,
John Raitt, Monty Python, Kathleen Battle, Randy Newman,
Bernadette Peters, Leopold Stokowski, George Harrison, the Smothers Brothers, Roger Daltrey,
Patti LuPone,
Nathan Lane, Henry Mancini, Sarah Chang, Brian Wilson, Trisha Yearwood,
Joshua Bell,
Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana and Andre Watts, who were previously inducted into the Hall of Fame. Drawn from the diverse arena of musical entertainment, including classical, pop, jazz, musical theatre, film composition, and dance, Hall of Fame honorees receive their tributes each summer as part of the Bowl's annual opening night celebration.
Actor and musician
Jack Black is also set to make an appearance in order to recognize young musicians from local youth orchestras.
