Jamie Zeccola aka Duke A. Barnstable (DAB) creates paintings, drawings, and sculpture. His work is infused with references from the past, yet it embodies the present with the future. His art, inspired by literature, film, and Dada, is an exploration of the unconscious, mixed with satire and dose of the absurd. DAB juxtaposes bold bright colors with scenes of tragicomedy. Diverse materials, such as wigs, arrows, and legos are combined with paint and canvas, which in time become hanging wall sculptures played on the key of Id. The works on paper are lighter in touch. The drawings express desire or the faint traces left behind after desire. Like scribbled thoughts in secret notebooks, they are for your eyes only. Like a memoir, he is telling the story of a painter's life from the painter's point of view. Zeccola's many travels to South America, Mexico, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Bulgaria have given his work a traveler's sense of time. His themes of study are exploration, discovery and remembrance.
