Mexican film, television and recording star Jaime Camil will make his Broadway debut starring as Nestor Castillo in the new Broadway-bound musical, THE MAMBO KINGS, producers Daryl Roth and Jordan Roth announced today. Camil will star in THE MAMBO KINGS opposite Esai Morales, who will play his brother Cesar, along with Albita, Justina Machado and Billy Dee Wi lliams. THE MAMBO KINGS begins performances Wednesday, July 20 on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd Street). Opening night is Thursday, August 18. THE MAMBO KINGS will play a pre-Broadway engagement from May 24 through June 19 at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco.
Jaime Camil currently stars in the vastly popular Televisa series "Mujer de Madera," seen by over 400 million viewers in 130 countries, including in the U.S. on Univision. Camil also starred in the series "Mi Destino Eres Tu" as well as his own special, "El Show de Jaime Camil," and as host of the Mexican broadcast of the Academy Awards. In 2004, Camil starred as Bernardo in an acclaimed production of West Side Story in Mexico City, for which he received the Journalists & Critics' Choice Award as Best Actor. Camil has recorded two highly successful solo albums: "Una Vez Mas" in 2002 and "Para Estar Contigo" in 1999. His recent film work includes starring roles in "Siete Dias" and "Zapata."

THE MAMBO KINGS has a book by Oscar Hijuelos (based on the novel for which he received the Pulitzer Prize) and Arne Glimcher, music by Carlos Franzetti and lyrics by Arne Glimcher. Direction will be by Mr. Glimcher with choreography by Sergio Trujillo. Scenic design for THE MAMBO KINGS is by Riccardo Hernández, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, and musical direction by Constantine Kitsopoulos.
