Highlights In Jazz, New York's longest running jazz concert series will be presenting its 37th season and final year of jazz performances.  Performances take place at Tribeca Performing Arts Center with upcoming shows including Salute to Lew Tabackin and Ben Webster and Lester Young Centennial Concert. To purchase tickets, call the box office at (212) 220-1460 or visit http://www.tribecapac.org/music.htm

Salute To Lew Tabackin takes place March 11th and features Toshiko Akiyoshi, Joe Magnarelli, Boris Kozlov, Lewis Nash and Jack WIlkins.  Ben Webster & Lester Young Centennial Concert takes place April 15th and features Jimmy Heath, Joe Lovano, Harry Allen, Jeb Patton, David Wong, Winard Harper.

Lew Tabackin, flutist and tenor saxophonist, is an artist of astonishing vision. His electrifying flute playing is at once virtuosic, primordial, cross cultural, and passionate. His distinctive tenor sax style includes the use of wide intervals, abrupt changes of mood and tempo, and purposeful fervor, all in the service of showing the full range of possibilities of his instrument melodically, rhythmically, and dynamically. Without copying or emulating jazz greats of the past, Mr. Tabackin has absorbed elements into his style, ultimately creating his own sound and aura. He's appeared and recorded with all the jazz greats including Cab Calloway, Les and Larry Elgart, Maynard Ferguson, Joe Henderson, Chuck Israels, Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, Clark Terry, and Duke Pearson.

After 37 years Jack Kleinsinger is calling it quits. May 13, 2010 will be the last Highlights show making this an even 300 Highlights In Jazz concerts presented by Jack Kleinsinger. His decision is not an artistic one, he would like to continue to produce Highlights, but a financial one.
