Deadline writes that Legendary Pictures has its sights set on a film about Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi, written and possibly directed by J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost).

Chandor has started work on the script and secured rights from the Lombardi estate and Eric Simonson's Broadway play, which premiered in 2010 and starred Dan Lauria and Judith Light. Chandor also nabbed the rights to the book the play is based on -- David Marannis' When Pride Still Mattered.
Chandor's project will head up against Eric Roth's Lombardi film, originally slated to star Robert De Niro (rumor is he's walked away from the project, leaving John Travolta as a possible replacement) and based on the memoir Instant Replay by Packers players Jerry Kramer and Dick Schaap.
Chandor's other upcoming directorial projects include A Most Violent Year, with Jessica Chastain. He cut his teeth in directing on the film Margin Call and his most recent pic, All Is Lost, starring Robert Redford, could be an awards season contender.
