'The Green Room Door', an upcoming new series on Showtime will explore the serious side of being funny as it showcases comics discussing their craft on a weekly panel format in front of an audience. The series will be hosted by Paul Provenza, and is scheduled to air in 2010.
Tony Award nominees Eddie Izzard and Robert Klein will be amongst the comedians appearing on the show, according to a report in Variety. Scheduled to appear are also Penn Jillette and Jonathan Winters.
'Green Room Door' will be produced by Barbara Romen and Provenza, who directed the theatrical comedy "The Aristocrats."
Izzard is a two-time Emmy winning British stand-up comedian and actor. An accomplished theatre actor, Izzard made his West End drama debut in 1994 as the lead in the world premiere of David Mamet's The Cryptogram. Izzard made his Broadway debt in 2003 with the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival production of 'A Day in the Death of Joe Egg'. The revival received four Tony Award nominations including Best Leading Actor for Izzard.
Richard Klein is a stand-up comedian and actor. He has appeared in various movies and television series. In 1979, Klein was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in They're Playing Our Song.
