It's All About Animals At The Staten Island Children's Museum In January  Image

Learning about animals will be the theme of the month at the Staten Island Children's Museum in January.

ShopRite Kidz Cook sessions will show participants how make nutritious and delicious dishes to enjoy with a pet. Sessions are on Fridays at 3:00 and 4:00 pm and are free with admission; tickets will be available at the front desk.

The month's Weekend Art Studio will let visitors try wet felting techniques and then create their own fiber art using wool. The studio is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

The monthly Con Edison Second Saturday Science! "Happy Hibernations!" workshop will explore how certain animals survive the winter months. Guests will also get to meet some special critters from the Staten Island Zoo. The workshop will be open on Saturday, January 12 from Noon - 1:00 pm.

Behavior Plus will share techniques to train pet dogs to be the best they can be during the "Sit! Roll Over! Bark!" presentations on Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 and 3:00 pm.

Visitors will get up close and personal with some small farm animals when the New Jersey Middlesex County 4H Club's "Barnyard Kids" stop by the Children's Museum on Sunday, January 27 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

Play Café Is Back!

The Children's Museum's Play Café returns on Saturday, January 5 from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Parents and caregivers are invited to socialize over free coffee or tea in this pop-up Café while children, ages 3 - 6, do crafts and other fun activities guided by the Museum staff. Play Café is free with admission, but pre-registration is required. Those interested should email jdudley@sichildrensmuseum.org by Wednesday, January 2 to reserve their spots.

January Holiday Hours
The Children's Museum will be closed on New Year's Day, Tuesday, January 1. It will be open on Monday, January 21, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, for special programs and events. That day will be a "Cool School Holiday" with free admission for all from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, sponsored by the Lois & Richard Nicotra Foundation and Stop & Shop.

The Staten Island Children's Museum is located on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. The Museum's hours for September - June are Tuesday- Friday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
