Irondale Ensemble, one of the country's longest-standing research theater companies, is seeking applications to present short pieces of theater, music, dance, or spoken word, with the hope of fostering a serious dialogue around the policies of President Donald Trump. For the entire month of March, Irondale is suspending regularly scheduled performances to present Not Normal: Art in the Time of Trump, a curated series to provide the community a forum to publically respond to the newly implemented intimidation tactics of the administration, and have their voices heard in a safe and supportive space. Scheduled over 4 weekends, March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 and 24, this pop-up performance series will be free to the public, performed by the public.
"There are many groups who are speaking out because of the uncertainty we are living among," explains Terry Greiss, Executive Director of Irondale. "Protests are being led all over the country, but what happens when we use our art as the vehicle to communicate our fears and concerns to our community? The response by our arts community has been wonderful so far, and we are hopeful that these curated evenings will be a source of inclusive conversation, education, and empowerment in navigating through whatever is coming next."
Submissions of works ranging from 5 minutes to full evening-length are currently being accepted, with longer works to be scheduled on their own evening during the month. All submissions for theater, music, dance, film or visual art works, are to be made at http://bit.ly/2l1KhQn, with a rolling deadline. All additional proposals and offers of involvement can be sent to irondale@irondale.org for consideration.
The full lineup of performances will be announced shortly and updated daily during the month of March.
Not Normal: Art in the Time of Trump will run March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 and 24 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Irondale Theater. Full length evening works will be announced on alternative evenings as they are submitted and accepted into the series.
Tickets to the series are free to the public.
