Irish Arts Center Hosts MIMIC 3/2-3/20

The Irish Arts Center, in association with Performance Space 122, proudly presents Mimic, a one-man play written and performed by "one of Ireland's most exciting new theatrical voices" Raymond Scannell, and directed and designed by Tom Creed, "one of the most accomplished and productive Irish theatre-makers of the decade", who last month directed the Gate production of Samuel Beckett's Watt at New York's Public Theater.

Mimic runs for 16 performances, March 2-20, 2011 in the Center's Donaghy Theater, Wed-Fri at 8pm, Sat at 2pm and 8pm and Sun at 3pm at the Irish Arts Center (553 West 51st Street between 10th and 11th Avenues) and tickets are $27 general/$23 IAC members and available on smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.

Mimic is the modern story of Julian Neary whose childhood gift for mimicry-from Columbo and Jimmy Stewart to Billie Holiday and Morrissey-becomes his ticket out of 1980s Ireland. He leaves for America, returning only years later on a journey of rediscovery to find a country much changed.

Winner of Best Male Performer at the Dublin Fringe Festival , Scannell takes the audience on a moving and mesmerizing journey, exploring imitation, authenticity, and what happens to a nation that leaves its heritage behind

The snappy monologue is an entertaining, dark, musical satire, "a poetic and extraordinarily prescient solo performance about a culture in economic and spiritual freefall", running for three weeks only in March.
