Casting is now set for the Public Theater's production of Rinne Groff's play The Ruby Sunrise, which will have its New York premiere at the famed theatre on November 1st in a production directed by artistic director Oskar Eustis.
"In 1927, in a barn on the outskirts of Indianapolis
, a young woman named Ruby struggles to realize
her dream of inventing and perfecting the first
all-electrical television system. Twenty-five
years later, in a television studio in Manhattan,
her daughter faces similar battles of will and
crises of faith as she works to get Ruby's story
told as she feels it must be told,"as the play is described in the Public Theatre website.
Marin Ireland (off-Broadway: Manuscript, Sabina, Far Away) will headline the show as Ruby/Elizabeth; she will be joined by Richard Masur (Broadway: Democracy, off-Broadway: Sarah, Sarah, Troilus and Cressida) as Martin, Anne Scurria (off-Broadway: The Hope Zone) as Lois/Ethel, Maggie Siff as Lulu,
Audra Blaser as Suzie, Patch Darragh as Henry/Paul and Jason Butler Harner (off-Broadway: The Paris Letter, Hedda Gabler) as Tad.Eustis makes his directorial debut with The Public Theatre, although he previously directed it last year at theatrical alma mater Trinity Rep in Providence, RI. Eustis recently replaced George C. Wolfe as the artistic director of the Public Theatre, which has been one of the major forces in US theatre for the past 50 years. Playwright Groff has previously penned pieces such as Inky, Jimmy Carter Was a Democrat and The Five Hysterical Girls Theorem.Tickets for The Ruby Sunrise will go on sale on October 10th.
