Agnes Moon's comedy play The Acrobat (Blood Ties) will have its Malta debut in February, featuring a multi-national cast
The international stars of The Acrobat (Blood Ties), which will be staged for the first time in Malta next month by Unifaun Theatre Productions, have arrived this week to start cast rehearsals.
Professional actors Marco Michel from Switzerland, Cody Hively from New York, Mark Windsor from the UK and Martin Szekely from Hungary have now joined local performers Jamie Cardona, Clayton Mallia and Rambert Attard in Malta, as well as top local director Stephen Oliver, to bring Agnes Moon's feel-good romantic comedy to life.
"Unifaun is delighted to be welcoming professional actors from all over the world to join the cast of The Acrobat," says Unifaun Theatre Productions artistic director, Adrian Buckle. "I hope that this project will pilot further productions of this nature and quality, which will continue to improve, energise and professionalise the theatre sector in Malta."
Adapted for the stage by Buckle, The Acrobat follows the rags-to-riches story of a professional thief with dozens of burglaries to his credit, who finds himself trapped in the enormous abode of an incredibly rich and mysterious vampire. Vincent de Saint-Bonnet is as seductive as he is lethal, but both he and the blue-eyed thief are taken aback by their mutual attraction, as they struggle over a particularly valuable dagger.
Although the production is partly funded by the MAF Project Fund of the Arts Council Malta, Unifaun last year also launched a crowdfunding campaign on local platform Zaar. Hoping to reach out directly to the Maltese public, the crowdfunding campaign contributed to funding the employment of the production's foreign cast, in order to help concrete Malta's reputation as a viable hub of international theatre.
The Acrobat (Blood Ties) by Unifaun Theatre Productions will be performed from 9 to 24 February 2019 at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta. The production is supported by the MAF Project Fund of the Arts Council Malta. Tickets are available by visiting www.kreattivita.org
