Inside Broadway to Offer Summer Camp for NYC Students This Month

This month the Great White Way's leading arts-education organization Inside Broadway (www.InsideBroadway.org) and the largest local union of professional musicians in the world, Local 802 AFM, will offer a special Musical Theatre Summer Camp from August 8-19 for NYC public school students grades 5-12.

During the program, the students will be working with Inside Broadway teaching artists and members of Local 802 on putting together an original musical as well as taking exciting backstage field trips around Broadway; this is the eighth year of the program and the sixth year Inside Broadway has partnered with Local 802 AFM.

The scheduled field trips will include the matinee of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night on Broadway on August 10th with a talk back with the cast afterwards as well as attending the matinee of An American in Paris on August 17th.

Hosted at Local 802 AFM Headquarters (322 West 48th Street) and during the two weeks the students will be working on a special final performance of an original musical using classic Broadway songs which will take place on Friday, August 19 at 2pm.

"We're thrilled to continue to offer such an exciting program and to be partnering with such a fantastic organization such as Local 802 AFM" says Michael Presser, Inside Broadway's Executive Director, "And through this special summer program, Inside Broadway wishes to foster a nurturing environment for students so that they have a better understanding of the creative process of musical theater and themselves."

Inside Broadway was established in 1982 by Michael Presser. Today, Inside Broadway reaches over 30,000 New York City students each year and develops and produces touring equity musical productions as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow participants to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
