To celebrate the end of their 30th anniversary and season, the not-for-profit Inside Broadway will partner with the hit, long-running production of Mamma Mia! to offer two free 'Creating the Magic' workshops today, June 14th at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Taking place at 10:45am and 1:15pm today, 6/14, the workshops are being presented for New York City public school students. Since 1982, Inside Broadway (Executive Director, Michael Presser) has impacted the lives of nearly one million New York City public school students with its one-of-a-kind programs that aim to enrich, educate and foster new generations of theatergoers and lifelong participation in the arts.
Today, June 14th, these thrilling, interactive and completely free 'Creating the Magic' workshops will fill the Winter Garden Theatre with over 2,500 New York City public school students that participate in Inside Broadway's programs (this will be many of the students' first time visiting a Broadway theatre). Attendees will get a special behind the scenes look at the world of Broadway with members of the Mamma Mia! cast and crew (lighting, sound, stage management and orchestra) all taking part. From exciting set, lighting and sound demonstrations to musical performances from the cast and a Q&A session, the Creating the Magic workshops are sure to be an unforgettable experience.
"We are so thrilled to be ending our 30th year with one of our most cherished events for New York City students" says Inside Broadway's Executive Director Michael Presser, "and we couldn't be happier to be partnering with Mamma Mia! which has been entertaining and enchanting audiences for more than a decade."
Production numbers that will be featured during both workshops on 6/14 are I Have a Dream, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, S.O.S., Lay All Your Love and Knowing Me, Knowing You.
Inside Broadway was established in 1982 by Michael Presser at the invitation of The Shubert Organization. Today, Inside Broadway reaches over 30,000 New York City students each year and develops and produces touring equity musical productions as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow participants to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
