The limited run of Inherit the Wind, starring two time Tony Award-winners Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy ends on Sunday, July 8. It will have played 27 previews and 100 regular performances.
This production of Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee's legendary 1955 drama began previews at The Lyceum Theatre (149 W. 45th St.) on March 19 and opened on April 12. Tony Award winner Doug Hughes directed. The play received four 2007 Tony Award nominations: for Christopher Plummer (Leading Actor), designer Santo Loquasto (sets), designer Brian MacDevitt (lighting) and Best Revival.
Inherit the Wind is produced on Broadway by Boyett Ostar Productions, The Shubert Organization, Lawrence Horowitz, Jon Avnet/Ralph Guild, Roy Furman, Debra Black/Daryl Roth, Bill Rollnick/Nancy Ellison Rollnick, and Stephanie McClelland.
Plummer received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Inherit the Wind. He is a two-time Tony Award winner for Cyrano (1973) and Barrymore (1997) and earned rave reviews for his performance on Broadway in King Lear (2004). Dennehy has won Tony Awards for his last two performances on Broadway in Death of a Salesman (1999) and Long Day's Journey Into Night (2003). Hughes won a Tony Award in 2005 for his direction of Doubt.
