ImprovBoston hosts 14 of New England's most talented college improv teams in the 10th Annual Beanpot College Comedy Festival. From February 20-22, area ensembles from schools including Boston College, Boston University, MIT, Emerson College and more compete for the title of Top College Team in New England. While at ImprovBoston, teams engage in improvisation workshops with ImprovBoston's own faculty alongside internationally renowned guest improvisers, attend industry panel discussions, build career connections and showcase their skills. The festival is open to the general public and features over five shows each night in the theater's two professional stages.
ImprovBoston's College Comedy Festival has been supporting university-level comedy since 2005, building bridges within the college improv community. It began as a tournament-style competition and has expanded to include workshops from leading comedians as well as non-competitive showcase performances for each team. The festival includes an Olympic-style competition in which each team participates in 4 rounds of judged comedy putting improvisers to the test in Short Form, Long Form, Line Games and the anything-goes Fire Round. The festival also includes a panel discussion from top-tier, professional comedians and ImprovBoston faculty, providing students invaluable advice about pursuing a career in comedy and gives a sneak peak into the inner workings of an established comedy theater.
Emily Holland, Executive Producer of the College Comedy Festival shares, "I performed in Beanpot all 4 years of college and made some of the best connections and had incredible experiences each time. I wanted to make the festival an even better experience and expand it to a festival, not just a competition so the college students could have the best time!"
The Beanpot College Comedy Festival takes place at ImprovBoston from February 20-22. Competition and showcase rounds take place on Thursday and Friday and the finals are on Saturday night. Tickets and more information can be found online at http://www.improvboston.com/ccf.
