While improvisation is best known for entertainment, it also gives students life skills that set them up for success and give them an edge. ImprovBoston offers middle and high school students once a week classes for ten weeks in improv at the theater's After School Laughter School.

Improv helps students communicate more effectively. Improvisers learn to build off what others say, work in teams, trust and connect with others, develop curiosity, find confidence in their own voice, take risks, and heighten their innate creativity - all while having fun. ImprovBoston's professionally-trained instructors encourage students to explore their artistic identity in a supportive, laugh-filled environment.

Kids agree. One student said it's all about quick thinking and relying on peers. Another student says improv helps her not worry about what others think.

"My kids loved it! It's a happy, safe, and fun environment that breeds self-confidence, acceptance of others, and lots of laughter," said Heather, parent of two former students ages 10 and 14.

"Improv games and exercises improve social skills in five areas: support, trust, risk-taking, confidence, and fun," said ImprovBoston Artistic Director Mike Descoteaux. "With these life skills, students learn to trust their own voices and everyone else on stage with them as they offer ideas and discover the collaborative power of the ensemble."

All ten-week courses begin January 18th or 19th:

  • Grades 6-8 (starting 1/18 + 1/19):
Youth Laughter School (perfect for home or non-traditionally schooled children), Wednesdays, 11AM - 12:30PM
After School Laughter School, Thursdays, 3:30 - 5PM

  • Grades 9-12 (starting 1/19):
After School Laughter School, Thursdays, 3:30 - 5PM

ImprovBoston also currently accepts registrations for February and April vacation Comedy Clinics for kids ages 8-13 and Summer Comedy Clinics for kids ages 8-17.
