ImprovBoston expands their scholarship base to provide opportunities for individuals representing minority groups to learn the art of improvisational comedy. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to explore the power of comedy through eight-week class sessions offered at ImprovBoston's nationally-acclaimed Comedy School. The ImprovBoston Outreach Scholarship will be awarded to an individual identifying with a cultural/racial minority who has a passion to learn improvisational comedy.
ImprovBoston partners with No Limits Media to offer a Disability Scholarship that will be awarded to an individual with a disability. These two new scholarships broaden the comedic training opportunities at ImprovBoston, building upon the success of the Matt Carey Scholarship, a full scholarship toward the entire six-level improv curriculum to 18-25 year olds with a dream of embarking on a career in comedy.
Humor provides an avenue for many minority groups to explore the intersection of culture, self-expression and creativity. As Artistic Director Mike Descoteaux observes, "one of improvisation's guiding philosophies underscores that everything you need for success, you already have present inside you." Applying this approach to minority groups, Descoteaux believes "allows performers to share their engaging narrative and uniquely empowering comic voice for the benefit of our artists and all our audiences."
