IRT and the Arctic Group presents POMEGRENADE

The Arctic Group is proud to present Pomegrenade, as part of IRT's 3B developmental series, a new play by Ran Xia.

Inspired by the Persephone myth, Neil Gaiman's American Gods, as well as the refugee crises around the world, Pomegrenade explores the ideas of accountabilities and bravery against uncertainty, and shed lights on the importance of remembrance. The story follows the personal growth of Persephone in the underworld (in this case a memory archive that's more like a library than Dante's hell), and zooms in on the roles women play in times of tragedies.

Persephone gets snatched to the underworld, but the place isn't really what she expected. Hades has his own problems to deal with as well, especially when the memory archive is at capacity with the refugees pouring into the world of the dead.

Choreography is by Samantha Sheppard. Set Design is by Julie A. Solomon. Lighting Design is by Katy Atwell. Assistant Director is Julia Levine.

RAN XIA: interdisciplinary dramatist, co-founder of The Arctic Group and co-curator of The Polar Bear Plunge at Lucky Jack's NYC. IRT Theater is a grassroots laboratory for independent theater and performance in New York City, providing space and support to a new generation of artists. Tucked away in the old Archive Building in Greenwich Village, IRT's mission is to build a community of emerging and established artists by creating a home for the development and presentation of new work.
