"The Sex Is In The Heel" sings the fabulous Lola in Broadway's fabulous hit Kinky Boots. But a diva needs to be sexy from head to heel. The show's Tony-winning director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell gives his Instagram viewers a photo collage of the different looks considered for his Tony-winning star, Billy Porter, as they prepared to begin rehearsals for the flashy show with the important message about embracing your own individuality and respecting the individuality of others.
Porter is prepping to begin rehearsals for director/bookwriter George C. Wolfe's SHUFFE ALONG, OR, THE MAKING OF THE MUSICAL SENSATION OF 1921 AND ALL THAT FOLLOWED, with Emmy Award-winner and Grammy Award nominee Wayne Brady will taking over the coveted role on November 21st.
Kinky Boots will mark Brady's return to Broadway after more than a decade. After making his Broadway debut in 2004 as Billy Flynn in Chicago, Brady also played Collins in the 2010 Neil Patrick Harris-directed Rent at the Hollywood Bowl and last year starred in Pasadena Playhouse's trailblazing production of Kiss Me Kate. In 2003, he won both a Primetime Emmy Award for "Whose Line Is It Anyway" and a Daytime Emmy Award as host of his own talk show, "The Wayne Brady Show." He currently hosts the CBS game show "Let's Make a Deal," which has earned him six Daytime Emmy Award nominations.
Now in its third smash year, Kinky Boots is also currently touring in the country on its First National Tour, and recently opened a production in Toronto in June. The show opens in the West End on September 15, 2015 at London's Adelphi Theatre, and has also announced an Australian production set to open in October 2016.
Kinky Boots tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family's struggling business. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, the unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world. The winner of six 2013 Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Bootsfeatures a Tony® Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony® Award- winner Jerry Mitchell. The Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots is available on Sony Masterworks.
