To Kill a Mockingbird, Aaron Sorkin's new play, directed by Bartlett Sher, and based on Harper Lee's classic novel, has once again shattered its own box office record and the record for the highest weekly gross for an American play on Broadway. The now record-breaking gross of$1,720,828.14 (w/e 4/21/19) still holds the title of the highest weekly gross of a play in the history of The Shubert Organization.
KING KONG had its best week of 2019 so far, celebrating Easter and Passover with a gross of $987,646.90 for the week ending 4/21. Up $134,253 from the previous week ending 4/14, KONG is looking very strong going into the tourist season.
The Tony Award-winning hit Harry Potter and the Cursed Child celebrates one-year on Broadway today. The highest grossing play in Broadway history, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has sold over $100 million in weekly gross sales since opening on April 22, 2018 at the Lyric Theatre. A record for any play on Broadway. Last week (w/e April 21, 2019), the production grossed $2,021,090.50.
This week, 36 shows played on Broadway, with 328,200 tickets sold and a total gross of $40,219,790. The average ticket price was $122.55.
This was the same as the number of shows as last week and the same vs. the same week last year. Compared to last week, attendance was up 7.80%. Versus last year, attendance was up 4.20%. On the sales front, overall grosses were up 15.82% vs. last week and up 7.23% vs. this week last year. This week's average ticket price of $122.55 is up $8.49 compared to last week and up $3.47 compared to last year.
