Read on for all the weekly grosses statistics for the movers and shakers from the latest grosses, 1/4/2015. Currently the 11th longest-running musical in Broadway history, the international blockbusterWICKED ended 2014 with its three North American productions breaking box office records across the U.S. - in New York on Broadway, as well as in Los Angeles and Detroit, where its two North American touring productions played. On Broadway, WICKED set a new industry record for the highest 8-performance week in Broadway history with a box office gross of $2,740,642, for the week ending January 4, 2015. On National Tour, the musical's two national touring productions achieved a similar milestone: at Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre, with a record 8-performance gross of $2,512,446 and at the Detroit Opera House with an 8-performance gross of $2,124,167, both for the week ending December 28, 2014. Additionally, the two touring productions subsequently broke records for highest grossing weeks (9 performances) for Los Angeles ($2,848,613) and Detroit ($2,533,725), for the week ending January 4, 2015. Combined, the three North American companies grossed over $15.6 million for the two week period December 22, 2014 - January 4, 2015. Producers of The Illusionists - Witness the Impossible™ announced today that the show took in $8,156,239 during its six-week Broadway engagement ending January 4th. The production celebrated the highest grossing week ever for a magic show on Broadway when The Illusionists - Witness the Impossible™ took in $2,217,250 for week ending January 4, 2015. (The previous record was held by David Copperfield, whose Dreams and Nightmares sold $1,325,753 for the week ending December 29, 1996). Last week also set a new weekly gross record for the Marquis Theatre passing White Christmas' gross of $1,588,859.00 in December 2008. Both Aladdin and The Lion King broke the eight performance week house records at their respective theatres, The New Amsterdam Theatre and The Minskoff Theatre, for the week ending January 4, 2015. Aladdin, Disney's Tony Award®-winning new musical comedy, grossed $1,842,291.00. This marks the fifth time Aladdin has broken a New Amsterdam Theatre house record since opening on March 20, 2014. Despite beginning performances eight weeks into the year, Aladdin finished 2014 as the fifth highest-grossing show of the year, and the only show of the 2013-14 season to make the top five. Disney's award-winning best musical, The Lion King, broke the house record for an eight performance week at the Minskoff Theatre with a gross of $2,514,893.92, marking the 24thhouse record set by the show since it moved to the Minskoff Theatre in 2006. For the second time in a row, the flagship New York production topped the list of Broadway's highest-grossing shows of the year. Both productions broke the house records for nine performance weeks at their respective theatres for the previous week, ending December 28, 2014. The Elephant Man, starring two-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper, Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Patricia Clarkson, and Alessandro Nivola, has broken the Booth Theatre box office record for the fourth time, grossing $1,069,102 in the week ending January 4, 2015. The limited engagement for Bernard Pomerance's Tony Award-winning play, directed by six-time Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis, has been extended by one week through February 22, 2015.
