Of note this week, The Tony Award®-winning Best Musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, is now the highest grossing production in the storied history of the Walter Kerr Theatre. With a cumulative gross of $39,455,756 as of Sunday, December 6, 2014, it has just surpassed the previous record-holder, A Little Night Music ($38,704,673.50). Last month, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder celebrated the 1 Year Anniversary of its opening night, and its Original Broadway Cast Recording was just nominated for the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Jordan Roth, the President and Principal Owner of Jujamcyn Theaters, which owns and operates the Water Kerr Theatre, said, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder follows in a long line of beloved and award-winning productions that have made the Walter Kerr what it is. Today's news is a testament to the collaborative spirit with which Gentleman's Guide was created, the tireless work of those who brought it to life and sustain its excellence, and the enthusiasm of the audiences who have so embraced it."
Producers Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman, and Ken Davenport announced today that the star-studded Broadway production of the backstage comedy It's Only a Play for the third time in its celebrated run broke the all-time box office record at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street). It's Only a Play's gross for the week ending December 7, 2014 was $ $1,424,039.00 for eight shows, besting the previous house record-high $1,376,686.00 set by the show in November.
