The hit Off-Broadway play In The Continuum, written and performed by Danai Gurira and Nikkole Salter with direction by Robert O'Hara, gives its final New York performance this Saturday evening, February 18 at 8:00PM at the Perry Street Theatre (31 Perry Street, just west of 7th Avenue. The play travels to Harare, Zimbabwe in late April prior to launching a U.S. tour in late August: first stop The Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Presented by Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Executive Producer - Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director Elliot Fox, Managing Director) in association with the Perry Street Theatre (David Elliott and Martin Platt, Co-Directors), Patrick Blake and Cheryl Wiesenfeld, the play transferred to the Perry Street Theatre after concluding its critically-acclaimed sold-out world premiere engagement at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters in the fall of last year. Performances at the Perry Street Theatre began November 18, 2005 and officially re-opened on December 1, 2005, World AIDS Day. Upon closing, the play will have given 13 previews and 81 regular performances at the Perry Street Theatre.
In The Continuum dramatizes the devastating problem of AIDS among African and African-American women a timely topic and an egregiously overlooked problem that is only now getting the attention of the international media. Living worlds apart in South Central, L.A. and Harare, Zimbabwe, two young women experience a kaleidoscopic weekend of darkly comic life changing revelations. With the two playwright/actors playing dozens of roles, In The Continuum envelopes the audience in its story of parallel denials and self-discoveries. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times simply declared, "One of the highlights of the fall Off-Broadway season!"
In The Continuum plays the following schedule: Monday through Saturday evenings at 8:00PM and Saturdays at 3:00PM. Tickets are $60 and may be purchased by calling SmartTix at (212) 868-4444 or online at www.SmartTix.com. With valid ID, $20 student tickets are available one-hour prior to performance.
