BroadwayWorld has just learned that theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured worldwide licensing rights to Broadway's Tony® nominated IF/THEN.

IF/THEN is an original Broadway musical which reunited the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, NEXT TO NORMAL: composer Tom Kitt (BRING IT ON, HIGH FIDELITY), book writer/lyricist Brian Yorkey (THE WEDDING BANQUET, PLAY IT BY HEART), and director Michael Greif (RENT, GREY GARDENS, DEAR EVAN HANSEN).

After a series of developmental labs over three years, IF/THEN staged an out-of-town tryout at the National Theatre, Washington, D.C. in November 2013. It opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 30, 2014 and was nominated for two Tony Awards. The Broadway production starred Idina Menzel, LaChanze, Anthony Rapp and James Snyder.

New York Magazine called IF/THEN "Thrilling! One of the most compelling new musicals in years. Every single thing in this show is new - you absolutely never know what is going to happen, right up to the last, powerfully moving beat."

The Chicago Tribune stated that the show is "A thoroughly fascinating, intellectually and musically rich new musical. It is a zesty, savvy and ambitious original." According to the New York Post, IF/THEN is "a fascinating, ambitious, and original new musical and simultaneously follows one woman's two possible life paths, painting a deeply moving portrait of the lives we lead, as well as the lives we might have led."

IF/THEN is the story of newly divorced Elizabeth, a woman rebuilding her life in New York City who discovers a world of infinite possibilities. The musical follows Elizabeth's two possible journeys as "Liz" and "Beth" - with each seeking to fulfill diverging personal and professional aspirations.

"When I heard the premise of IF/THEN, I was genuinely excited, as the concept of exploring 'what might have been' is one that has fascinated me since childhood." stated Drew Cohen, President of MTI Worldwide. "Books and films have tackled the idea of choice, chance and parallel realities, but not through the enormous challenge of musical theatre. IF/THEN beautifully shows how we choose our lives and how our lives choose us."

The show is currently on a national tour and is expected to be available for licensing fall 2016. For more information about MTI and licensing, please call (212) 541-4684 or email licensing@mtishows.com
