For the first time in American Idol history, 5 girls made up the top 5. It may have been obvious from the beginning, but it wasn't an easy road for any of the ladies. The first round included songs from the year the contestant was born. The second were songs made famous by divas.

Candice was first and she sang Paula Abdul's Straight Up. She put a bluesy twist on it and I think that it worked well with her voice. However, Candice could have gone with a bigger song to showcase her voice more.

Vince Gill's When I Call Your Name was the song choice for Janelle. Once again, a bigger song would have suited Janelle better. It was a nice performance but it could have had a bigger impact on the judges and the audience.

Kree went with She Talks to Angels by the Black Crowes. She has such a crisp and clear voice This performance was the better of the two that she sang tonight.

Angie was next and she went with I'll Stand by You and she once again brought her piano on stage. I think at this point in the competition it is clear that Angie is at her best on the piano. Carrie Underwood sang a cover of this a couple years ago and it was great. Angie's rendition was even better. The judges really enjoyed the performance and praised her for dedicating the song to the people of Boston.

The first round ended with a performance from Amber. She picked a Mariah Carey song and of course it came with a little nerves. I was new to this song, but I liked the performance anyway. She has such a great tine and complete control of her voice. She received a standing ovation from the judges. Mariah liked the choices that she made to make the song her own.

Round 2 kicked off with Candice singing When You Believe by Mariah and Whitney Houston. Her main goal was to make Mariah proud and it she did just that and a whole lot more. It was a fantastic rendition by 2 legendary singer. I have said it in past weeks but as the finale nears, I think that Candice will be the last one standing. The judges loved it and Mariah held back tears saying that she also made Whitney proud.

After that stellar performance came Janelle who went with Dumb Blonde by Dolly Parton. Janelle had fun on the stage, but the song did not really show off her vocals. I think a slower song would have been a better choice.

Kree went with a Celine Dion song and for me it was just ok. I am usually a big fan of Kree but it just did not do much for me. Her vocals were good but it was just a forgettable performance.

Angie sang Halo by Beyonce. She seemed to strain a little bit at the end but it was a great performance all around. Nicki said that she is global and iconic while Randy said that Angie is in it to win it. It was one of the best performances of the night.

Rounding out the night was Amber with What are you Doing the Rest of Your Life By Barbra Streisand. Every note was on point and it was a fantastic performance.

Will the judges use their one and only save tomorrow night? Tune in to find out and to see performances by Clay Aiken and Fantasia Barrino.
