I Love Paris, Doug Fields' hit off-Broadway satire of the camera-friendly Hilton sister, will mark its one-year anniversary at the Blue Heron Arts Center (123 East 24th Street between Park
and Lexington) with the return of original star Kevin Shinick; the show plays every Monday at 8 PM.
The one-(wo)man show, which is directed by Timothy Haskell, was first performed by Shinick on July 26th, 2004; he left last winter but now returns to the role on June 20th, 2005 and will go through the one-year
anniversary. A 50-year old
magician named Ago, and actor/dancer Aaron Haskell succeeded Shinick as Paris.I
Love Paris "captures an intimate moment with the world
renowned socialite as she prepares to audition for the fifth co-host
seat of the ABC daytime television talk show, "The View". While
she waits in the green room, Paris reminisces about her whirlwind life, the high
points, the low points and all of the fascinating points in between.
Baring it all like never before--her straight to video performance not
withstanding--she takes on even the most controversial
topics," according to a press article.
Playwright Field is best known to
New York audiences for his plays,Down Southand An Enola Gay
Christmas, which just played during the 2003 holiday season. The New York
Times called Down South "Irresistibly silly" while New York Magazine picked An
Enola Gay Christmas as one of the "Top Five Holiday Shows" in New
York. His other plays include Jeannie Fitzpatrick Is Angry, C-Cup and
Viburnum. He won the Outstanding Playwright Award for The Flower of Dubuque at
the Fritz Blitz Festival of New Plays in San
Diego.
Director Haskell recently directed the rock and
roll disenfranchisement comedy Corporate Rock also at the Blue Heron. He
created and directed the recent cult hit Road House that transferred from
Off-Off Broadway to Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre earlier this
season and was the creator of the Halloween Adventure Haunted House. He
will direct the stage version of Fatal Attraction starring Corey Feldman
in the Michael Douglas role beginning on July 1st.
Shinick was the host of the
Emmy Award winning television series, "Where in Time is Carmen
Sandiego?" and is also a Broadway veteran, having performed such classics
as Night Must Fall with Matthew Broderick, The School For Scandal with Tony
Randall, The Seagull with Ethan Hawke, The Government Inspector with Lainie
Kazan and in the Tony-nominated productions of Timon of Athens and Saint
Joan. His Off-Broadway credits include Doug Field's previous hit
play, Down South, at the Rattlestick Theater.
