The Hunter College Department of Theatre is proud to announce the inauguration of
a new public-event series: TheaterMatters-An Artists and Critics Review Panel.
TheaterMatters will bring professional theater critics together with practicing
theater artists to review current New York City theater productions in front of a live
audience. Curated and moderated by Hunter Theater Professor
Jonathan Kalb, an
award-winning theater critic and scholar, this series aims to alter the temper and
expand the reach of theater criticism by presenting it in the form of informed and
involved public discussions.
The series begins Monday, March 19, 2018, 7-9 p.m., with:
Peter Marks (Theater Critic, The Washington Post)
Fitz Patton (Broadway and Off-Broadway Sound Designer, Founding Editor of
Chance Magazine)
Alisa Solomon (Professor, Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, critic for The
Nation and many other publications)
These panelists will discuss:
Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes by
Tony Kushner-a
Broadway production at The
Neil Simon Theater
and
Jerry Springer-The Opera by
Richard Thomas and
Stewart Lee-an Off-Broadway
production by
The New Group at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
The panels will take place in Hunter's Loewe Theater (68th St. and Lexington Ave.),
will include Q&A with the live audience, and will be recorded for podcasting. All
events are free and open to the general public as well as the Hunter community.
SAVE THE DATE: The second TheaterMatters panel will follow on Monday, May
