It's Hungerthon season again, and in light of today's tough economic climate, WHY's work to fight hunger and poverty at the grassroots level is more critical than ever.
WHY, in partnership with New York-based radio stations, will use the power of the airwaves to raise funds and awareness about the issues of hunger and poverty on Nov. 21, 22, and 24. During Hungerthon, listeners are encouraged to make donations and bid on auction items while learning about innovative grassroots organizations throughout the country. Hungerthon serves as WHY's largest annual public outreach, broadcasting to millions of people essential information about hunger and poverty.
Additionally, Hard Rock International has launched its 2009 global "Imagine There's No Hunger" campaign to benefit WHY and its grassroots partners throughout the world. This theme will resonate during Hungerthon: donors can receive limited edition
John Lennon "Imagine" pins, T-shirts or sweatshirts; and the all-star Serve 4 benefit CD, which features tracks by
John Lennon, O.A.R.,
Elvis Costello, Eric Hutchinson, Brett Dennen and more. They can also bid on exclusive music, entertainment and sports memorabilia during the radio broadcast. Items being auctioned include guitars autographed by
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and
Eric Clapton; Yankee and Mets packages; dinner with legendary actor and author
Charles Grodin; dinner with actor Vin Pastore of The Sopranos; a television taping and brunch with CBS News'
Charles Osgood; and tickets to a taping of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with
John Stewart.
