Hudson Warehouse Presents PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Hudson Warehouse kicks off its 16th Season with their new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. This high spirited, delightful stage adaptation is written by Hudson Warehouse's Executive Director Susane Lee.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE will perform for two weeks in March as part of Women's History Artist Month (W.H.A.M.) at Goddard Riverside's Bernie Wohl Performing Arts Center from March 7th - 17th, Thursdays to Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3pm. Hudson Warehouse has been the Resident Theater Company at Goddard Riverside for seven years and is thrilled to present this classic story at the center with the support and collaboration of Community Arts Director, Susan Macaluso.

"I've loved the story of Pride and Prejudice for so long," says adapter and director, Susane Lee. "Elizabeth Bennett is a woman ahead of her time. A woman would never decline a marriage proposal, much less two! She responds from her heart and her instincts are correct! But in the society in which she lives, single women were a burden on their families and had little social standing if they remained single. What Elizabeth does is shocking and brave."

Hudson Warehouse Producing Artistic Director, Nicholas Martin-Smith, the Assistant Director of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE added, "Of course, like so many others, I fell in love with Jane Austen's work through the films. The idea of bringing such an epic story into the Bernie Wohl Arts Center, the cultural hub of the Upper West Side, was thrilling."

"Because PRIDE AND PREJUDICE has been adapted so many times, I wanted to find something new, a fresh viewpoint that I discovered from the book and my own take on the story," said Susane. "What I never fully saw in any adaptation is Elizabeth's first two romances. There are two men who are very strong contenders for her heart. This I've not seen fully explored in the movies and something I really felt was important in my adaptation. I also gave Charles Bingley two scenes that aren't even in the book, but something I felt he deserved. I must also add, we got so lucky with this cast! Every role is crucial in telling this story and the actors we cast are so talented, so committed, and such a joy to work with. At every rehearsal, I have to pinch myself, knowing I'm working with some of the finest actors in New York City!

The Cast: The cast is led by Collette Astle, making her Hudson Warehouse debut as Elizabeth Bennet and Hudson Warehouse Alumni Jake Lesh playing Mr. Darcy. Jake was last seen as D'Artagnan in their July 2018 world premiere production and original adaptation of The Three Musketeers: Twenty Years Later. Artist in Residence Roxann Kraemer is back as Mrs. Bennet. Roxann appeared as Hecuba in their March WHAM 2018 production of TROJAN WOMEN. Mr. Bennet will be played by Bob Wasinger, last seen as Lord Armand DeWinter in The Three Musketeers: Twenty Years Later. Appearing as the Bennet sisters are: Hannah McKechnie as Jane, Sierra Pilkington as Mary, Cailin Anne as Kitty, and Courtnie Harrington as Lydia. George Wickham will be played by Trevor St. John-Gilbert and Charles Bingley is played by Patrick McCann, both newcomers to Hudson Warehouse and his sister, Caroline Bingley, will be played by Artist in Residence Karen Collazzo who appeared as Hildy Johnson in the March WHAM 2017 theatrical production of the Hollywood classic, His Girl Friday. Returning Hudson Warehouse alum also includes Lisa LaGrande, who plays Charlotte Lucas, and appeared recently as Andromache in TROJAN WOMEN, Joe Hamel (Mr. Gardiner/Mr. Lucas) who was Athos The Three Musketeers: Twenty Years Later, and Karen Eterovich (Lady Catherine De Bourgh) who played Gertrude in their critically acclaimed production of HAMLET this past August 2018. Artist in Residence Roger Stude, who appeared as Falstaff in their 2015 production of HENRY 4.1, will play Mr. Collins. Warehouse Newcomers also include Joseph Thomas and Peter Reid Lambert as the militia men Denny and Freddie, Moira McCormick as Mrs. Gardiner, Julia Morgantini as Mrs. Phillips/Mrs. Reynolds, Evan Brubaker as Colonel Fitzwilliam and Lara Notarianni as Darcy's younger sister Georgiana.

Synopsis: The most famous story by Jane Austen where, in a society of class, and manners, Elizabeth Bennet's rash judgments keep her from seeing a man's true character, while encouraging the attentions of another.

Performances: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE previews on Thursday, March 7th and opens on Friday, March 8th. Performances are March 7th - 17th.  March 7-10th, Thursdays - Sundays at 7:30pm, March 14-16, Thursday to Saturday, performances at 7:30pm. March 17th Sunday 3:00pm matinee. Show closes on March 17th. The Running time of the play is 120 minutes with One Intermission.
