On May 9, 2014, the Howard County Arts Council opens two new exhibits: Resident Visual Artists Exhibit 2014 and Weaving Outside the Box: Exploring Idioms in Fiber 2014 marks the 30th year of the Resident Visual Artists Exhibit at the Howard County Arts Council.
The exhibit features recent work created by artists who have studios at the Center for the Arts: James Adkins, Joan Bevelaqua, Andres Gomez, Myungsook Ryu Kim, Art Landerman, Diana Marta, Amanda Gordon Miller, Jereme Scott, Alice St. Germain-Gray, Andrei Trach, Jamie Travers, Mary Jo Tydlacka, and David Zuccarini. The artists work in a variety of media including oil and watercolor painting, woodblock printmaking, drawing, and glass bead-making. Weaving Outside the Box: Exploring Idioms in Fiber is a juried exhibit showcasing fiber art created by members of the Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore.
Members of the Guild were asked to use their craft to interpret an idiom of their choice. The result is a diverse collection of woven items including jewelry, apparel, blankets, rugs, sculpture, and more. The show was judged by Christine Spangler and Anna Byrd Mays. A free reception will be held on June 19 from 6-8pm in conjunction with the Columbia Festival of the Arts, with entertainment by All County Improv at 6:30pm and Resident Artists' Open Studios from 7-8pm. The Resident Artists will also host a Portfolio Sale on Sunday, May 18 from 12-4pm. Resident Visual Artists Exhibit 2014 and Weaving Outside of the Box run through June 27, 2014.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Sunday 12 - 4 p.m. The Galleries are closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2014.
