Shakespeare's world will be discussed and his scenes enacted in How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare at Hunter College's Kaye Playhouse on Monday, June 6th.

The show, which will last from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, will feature a discussion between New York Times best-selling author Professor Stephen Goldblatt and legendary theater critic Robert Brustein.  In addition, F. Murray Abraham and Joe Plummer will play out scenes from the Bard's works.  "Directed by Michael Sexton, references will be drawn from Professor Greenblatt's best-seller Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare while Brustein will offer anecdotes and insight from his years of dramatic criticism for the New Republic and his long career directing the Bard," according to the press release.

Greenblatt is a Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University. His areas of specialization include Shakespeare, 16th- and 17th-century English literature, the literature of travel and exploration, and literary theory.

Brustein is a founding director of the Yale Repertory and American Repertory Theatres.  He has supervised well over 200 productions and is the author of 13 books on theatre and society.  Mr. Brustein also served for 20 years as Director of the Loeb Drama Center, and is Professor of English at Harvard and drama critic for The New Republic.

The Shakespeare Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of the works of William Shakespeare.  Each season The Society offers its members events featuring dialogue and performance with some of the finest classical actors and directors. The Society also has an educational outreach program in NYC Public Schools, as well as an adult education program.
