Hoboken's R. William Maggs Designs is featuring local artist Michelle Doll, as well as Artist-in-Residence Félix Gardón, in a fall show of Ms. Doll's early works, opening this Friday, September 19th, 2014. Three of Ms. Doll's massive paintings will be exhibited as well as several of her small works, through the end of October. An opening reception will be held from 7pm - 10pm. The Sabores Mexican Restaurant will be co-sponsoring and catering the event. Gift bags will be provided by Poets Wear Prada, the Hoboken-based publisher.

The new home décor and floral design store, which opened its doors this past winter on Washington Street, recently relocated to a newly renovated, quite spacious, split-level accommodation, replete with crystal palace glass façade and chandelier, at 155 Sixth Street between Bloomfield and Garden, once home to Arts on Sixth. Matt and Boni Johnson owned the thriving art gallery for nine years before the couple relocated to Massachusetts in 2003. Since their departure, the space has housed a real estate office and most recently a knitting store.

The new tenants, Bill Maggs (formerly of Neiman Marcus) and his partner, the actor, poet and artist Félix Gardón, have reclaimed the space for gardeners, homebodies, and local artists. Last month they joined Hoboken's 3rd Sunday Art Walk with an in-house exhibition of Felix's vibrantly hued paintings, Polaroid manipulations, and hand-painted aprons. After hosting long-time friend Ms. Doll's show, they are planning to curate an affordable small works show by other local artists, just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. An exhibition of student art is also being discussed.

R. William Maggs Designs carries a variety of fresh cut flowers, house and garden plants, as well as refurbished shabby chic antiques (flea market finds and pieces by Tricia Landel of Integrity Furniture), Trapp scented candles and fragrances, and a variety of exclusive gifts and home décor items. Bill and Felix host "girl's night out" flower arranging classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The power- flower couple, also, continue to provide expert floral design and event planning services for weddings, anniversaries, and life's other little celebrations and special occasions.

Store hours are 11am to 7pm, Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 5pm, Saturdays and most Sundays, as well as by appointment. Store phone is 201-238-2240. Email is RwmaggsDesigns1@gmail.com. Like them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, and friend them at all the usual places.
