The Highling Ballroom has announced their upcoming events for August 15-August 28.  The schedule is as follows:

EVERY SATURDAY LATE NIGHT at The Highline Ballroom:
The Rewind Show
with live performances and celebrity DJs
21 or over to enter
Doors at 10:30pm, Show at 11:00pm
$20 at door
RSVP to info@4kent.com
The Rewind Show is a vision we have had for as long as we have been in the business of night clubs and event planning. We are tired of the same concept that every night-club in NYC has been stuck with over the years and think that it's time to change the way to party! As we all know nothing can compare to a live performance and therefore we have created the Rewind Show! We want to bring an experience like no other by combining the live music of the 80's Rock & Roll era along with the best DJ's spinning the present hits. Every Saturday night, the Highline Ballroom will operate as a high-end night club to let people experience the Rewind Show. (http://therewindshow.com/)

NYCGIGS.COM presents
Poofy & The Busboys,
Jay & The Birds, Uptown Party Down
Concert starts @ 7:30PM
Doors open @ 6PM
Tickets $12.00 in advance
$15.00 day of show.
Poofy and the Busboys have created a new style-bending sound-beach-hop. Beach-hop meshes the poetic wit and authenticity of hip-hop with the sonic journeys and improvisation of a jam band. It can be as laid back and fun as a day by the shore or as tumultuous as the ocean during a hurricane. The organic hip-hop jam band met while busing tables and washing dishes at a restaurant in the city by the sea, Long Beach, New York. The band's music is entirely live instrumentation - no drum machine, no sequencer - which allows Poofy and the Busboys to take their art and performances in a direction that sample based groups cannot.

Poofy and the Busboys' debut album, "The Roselle EP," introduces 6 of the band's 25 (and growing) beach-hop compositions and explores the complexities of life's relationships, the darkness of addiction and moments of angst, contrasted with the optimism for all of life's possibilities and embracing yourself for all of your flaws.

The band has created a local following in the tri-state area by playing out consistently in venues that include the CMJ Music Marathon, Knitting Factory (Main Stage), the Bitter End, Webster Hall, City Winery, the Village Underground, the Crazy Donkey-to name a few.

Jeff LeBlanc
Record Release Party
Caroline Rose
Nick Howard
Concert starts @ 8PM
Doors open @ 6PM
Tickets $12.00 in advance
$15.00 day of show.
Jeff LeBlanc is using his college degree a little differently than he first envisioned.

His immediately familiar-sounding blend of pop and acoustic rock quickly took him from dorm room concerts at Sacred Heart University to a 60-date tour of colleges across the country, where he was praised as everything from "the new John Mayer" to an artist "perfectly in tune with his audience." His debut album, "Signals", has scored praise from the likes of Clear Channel, Sirius/XM Radio, Seventeen Magazine and AOL Music.

After graduation, he hit the road; headlining venues across the US and also opening for the Goo Goo Dolls, Ingrid Michaelson, Matt Nathanson, Augustana, Lee Dewyze, Brett Dennen and Third Eye Blind. Jeff is currently finishing work on the highly anticipated follow up to "Signals", slated for August 2011 release.

June and Jean Millington of Fanny: "Play Like a Girl"
Concert starts @ 8PM
Doors open @ 6PM
Tickets $15.00 in advance
$17.00 day of show.
Fanny, the original "Godmothers of Chick Rock" were the first all-female rock band to be signed to a major label. They toured from 1970-1975, wrote and arranged their own songs, released five albums, and had a number of international hit singles. But most importantly, they played hundreds of fantastic live concerts for thousands and thousands of fans and were instrumental in founding the modern world of women in rock. Many major women rock artists - from Joan Jett to Girlschool to Courtney Love and many, many more - were able to get to the top because Fanny broke down the barriers and opened the way!

QN5 MEGASHOW 2011
featuring CunninLynguists, Tonedeff, PackFM, + Special Guests
Concert starts @ 9PM
Doors open @ 7PM
Tickets $15.00 in advance
$17.00 day of show.
The QN5 MEGASHOW is an annual destination event thrown exclusively by NYC's independent hip hop label, QN5 Music, for their fans. It is the only time the entire label's roster (CunninLynguists, Tonedeff, PackFM, Substantial, Mr. SOS & Kokayi) converges on the same stage on the same night.

QN5 fans (ie. Blue Schoolers) from all over the world make their pilgrimage to this event to celebrate all things baby blue and see one of the most energetic and entertaining shows in Hip Hop. This event has torn down legendary spots such as CBGBs, BB Kings, The Roxy (LA) and now makes its second visit to NYC's Highline Ballroom.

2011's Megashow marks a pivotal turning for the independent collective of artists, as they celebrate a decade-plus of musical independence and multiple critically acclaimed releases. To mark this occasion, this year's theme is Evolution. Eschewing the traditional ‘one by one' line-up of previous years, the collective will be performing a ‘history of QN5' in a collaborative format - year by year - that reaches for a peak into the future as well.

Along the way, there will be plenty of special guests, special treats, and energy that have made the QN5 Megashow THE Hip Hop showcase of the year. As usual, there will be no photography or videotaping of this event permitted, so you'll just have to be there to see for yourself.

Remember, this is not a standard club show...this is a concert experience. So, if you're putting this off to wait until your favorite QN5 artist makes their way to your neck of the woods, you're sorely missing out.

If you've never seen a QN5 show before - THIS IS THE ONE TO SEE. If you're a blue school veteran - YOUR ATTENDENCE IS MANDATORY. If your friends are familiar with QN5 - BRING THEM ALONG. If you've never been to New York City before - THIS IS A GREAT REASON TO VISIT. And with this year's theme, there's no good excuse barring a death in the family to miss this one.

APB
Concert starts @ 8PM
Doors open @ 6PM
Tickets $15.00 in advance
$17.00 day of show.
APB were one of the greatest "singles" band's of the 1980s. The reason why they are not heralded by music critics all over the world is because they were truly independent and in the original spirit of D.I.Y. - their Scottish singles were poorly distributed. With no real promotion or marketing, their international cult fan base was truly word of mouth. Even when the original "Something to Believe In" album (a less extensive version of CD 1) was released in America, it was on a small label called Link Records run by Mark Beaven and Andy Kipnes of AAM (they remain two of the most important producer managers of the world today).

I discovered the APB single "Chain Reaction" (one the band has never been fond of) at one of the great original independent record stores, Vintage Vinyl in Irvington N.J. Store owner Rob Roth would get all the new imports in twice a week. I did a radio show at WRSU FM (the Rutgers University station in New Brunswick, N.J.) and had built up a big cult following in the Rutgers/Princeton area. Every week I would play the new tracks that moved me. I also DJ'ed at the coolest new music bar in Central N.J. called the Melody.

When I bought the second APB single "Shoot You Down" I was blown away by the pure energy and sparse funk groove that drove the record. It became a favourite at the club and a big request record at the station.

At the same time WLIR, one of the few original commercial alternative radio stations, was playing the hell out of the single. People could not wait to see the trio from Aberdeen, Scotland live. So in a short time APB made their way to the States and these early shows were incredibly intense and visceral. Great singles followed - never disappointing "Palace Filled with Love," "Rainy Day," "One Day," and the classic underground dance smash "What kind of Girl?"

I was somehow able to contact the band in the early 80s, and they came to WRSU to do an interview at the college station. We ended up hanging out all night, getting drunk, playing pool and talking music for hours.

Over the course of the next few years, I saw the band live about 15 times. They would always pack clubs in New York City, New Jersey and Long Island - anywhere they received airplay.

I consider these two CD's to be an absolute treasure. Even if Franz Ferdinand (who started not so far from where APB did in their native home of Scotland,) The Killers, The Rapture, Kasabian and many more of the new dance groove / new wave 80s inspired artists are not familiar with the amazing APB, I feel these bands all indirectly owe a debt to them. At the time when most artists are still rocking with nihilistic punk fervor,APB were fearlessly breaking new ground. I will always fondly remember them as one of the most exciting bands of the early 80s.

Queen V - In her iron fist, this ferocious singer clutches a mic and claims sovereignty over your senses with that hard-edged, bombastic rock sound you've been missing.

Madison Ambush - exciting the senses with their brand of non-ironic 80s hard rock with a modern edge

Chasing Thrill - Their music is full of energy with fast tempos and high pitch vocal melodies

Atom Strange - The birth of Atom Strange began in the winter of 2006 when guitarist Alex Rude was working part time for a friend at a high end comic book shop in Manhattan. Alex came across a copy of DC Comics Showcase 117. It was the debut of the title character of Adam Strange. With a tattoo of an atom on his arm and his life long fascination with the world of Scifi and outer space, Atom Strange was born.

Mother - A crazy interspecies-erotica fusion of 70s and 90s rock that will take your soul on a roller-coaster trip.

About Gotham Rocks:
Gotham Rocks has become a rock and metal powerhouse, wherein they will stage over 60 shows in 2011. Prestigious venues including the Gramercy Theater, Highline Ballroom, Irving Plaza, Crash Mansion, Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson, NJ) and many others are all housing branded productions. A community counting tens of thousands has emerged, and with each passing month, continues to grow.
