The Rewind Show is a vision we have had for as long as we have been in the business of night clubs and event planning. We are tired of the same concept that every night-club in NYC has been stuck with over the years and think that it's time to change the way to party! As we all know nothing can compare to a live performance and therefore we have created the Rewind Show! We want to bring an experience like no other by combining the live music of the 80's Rock & Roll era along with the best DJ's spinning the present hits. Every Saturday night, the Highline Ballroom will operate as a high-end night club to let people experience the Rewind Show.

Saturday, May 1
OZOMATLI
with Rubblebucket
Doors at 6:30pm, Show at 7:30pm
(Also April 30)
$22 adv, $25 at door
In their fourteen years together as a band, celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli have gone from being hometown heroes to being named U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors. Ozomatli has always juggled two key identities. They are the voice of their city and they are citizens of the world. Their music-- a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga-- has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around L.A. Begun as a product of the city's grassroots political scene, Ozomatli have played in places like Tunisia, India, Jordan, and Nepal rousing free public concerts and offered musical workshops, master classes and visited arts centers, summer camps, youth rehabilitation centers, and even a Palestinian refugee camp.

THE GLITCH MOB
with Free The Robots and Deru

The Glitch Mob is a four man musical collaboration with roots from San Francisco and Los Angeles. This eventually led to the four man sonic onslaught of ferocious bass, head cracking drums and infinitely complex rhythms. A proverbial Voltron effect on stage. Taking influences from hip-hop, experimental, and dance genres, The Glitch Mob have crafted their own form of futuristic dance floor hip-hop that has been "slaying" audiences world wide.

KING SUNNY ADE
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$25 adv, $30 at door
**This show has been moved from April 9th. Date will be honored. Refunds available at all points of purchase**
Since the evolution of juju music in Nigeria in the thirties no exponent has made a more lasting impact in the genre than King Sunny Ade. As a singer, composer and guitarist, he has succeeded over the years in taking this Nigerian social music type to international heights. Ade came on the scene in 1966, but when Ade signed on with Island Records in 1982 as a result of attracting international attention, he was perhaps the biggest natural phenomenon on the Nigerian music scene where massive record sales kept him at the top of the charts. With the release of the album "Juju Music", Ade was launched personally onto the Western pop scene, and his presence generated the kind of buzz associated with a big star. He was presented as a Yoruba prince and referred to as king. His musicians called him chairman. Elegant, youthful-looking and courteous, Sunny Ade had the charisma to match his new status. He even had the air of regal candor to go with his title, "the king of juju music."

Wednesday, May 19
MURS

He is the only rapper with his own music festival. Each album he releases sells more than its predecessor. He toured the world without having a major record deal. Murs wants to be rap's leader and spokesperson, the artist who helps give rap a credible face to fans, the media and critics. After all, the Los Angeles rapper is articulate and well read. He doesn't use drugs and his platform consists of peace, love, unity and having fun.

Wednesday, May 26
Bettye Lavette
Doors at 7:00pm, Show at 9:00pm
$27.50 adv, $30 at door
Bettye Lavette brings the British Invasion home to its American R&B roots on her latest CD, Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook, due May 25 on Anti-. Throughout Interpretations, her performances are a revelation not just of raw emotion, but of the inexorable ties between British rock 'n' roll and the American blues and R&B, which when combined, catalyzed popular music. That Lennon, McCartney, and so many others who crossed the Atlantic in their wake, were deeply influenced by American music is no great secret. What Bettye demonstrates here so convincingly is the degree to which rock 'n' roll and American soul remain bound by bloodlines.

Thursday, May 27 & Friday, May 28
THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT
with Cracker, Miss Derringer
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$30
Undeniably, The Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, is the biggest, baddest, grittiest, greasiest, greatest rocker that ever piled his hair up and pounded the drinks down. Without question, for all of his outlandish antics, blistering stage performances and legendary musical prowess, the one thing The Rev always gets asked about is the story behind his unusual and rather clerical moniker. "Well, there used to be this guy who ran this place in Deep Ellum, Texas who used to call me Horton- my last name is Heath," says The Rev. "Anyway, this guy hired me and right before the show he goes, "Your stage name should be Reverend Horton Heat! Your music is like gospel" and I thought it was pretty ridiculous. So I'm up there playing and after the first few songs, people are saying, "Yeah, Reverend!" What's really funny is that this guy gave up the bar business, and actually became a preacher! Now he comes to our shows and says, "Jim, you really should drop this whole Reverend thing." It's been an almost 20-year journey for Heath, whose country-flavored punkabilly and onstage antics have brought him and his band a strikingly diverse fan base and a devoted cult following, not to mention the respect of fellow musicians worldwide. Revival, the band's first release for Yep Roc Records, is a return to Heath's roots - musical and geographical.
