About the show: "New York City-based electronica and rock duo Dangerous Muse formed when Mike Furey and Tom Napack met as students at Fordham University. Furey, a singer-songwriter trained in piano, wanted to experiment with a more electronic sound, and Napack, a musician-programmer, was looking to collaborate with a lyricist. The two's first recording, The Rejection (2005), caught the attention of legendary record mogul Seymour Stein, who offered the duo a demo deal with Sire Records and facilitated their signing to Cordless Recordings, a digital imprint of Warner Music Group. Soon after, the duo signed with former Warner Bros. Records Senior Executive, Craig Kostich of Operational Art, for management. Look for their hotly anticipated record to drop very, very soon."

About the show: "Originally influenced by Mick Jagger and by Rob Tyner of MC5, David Johansen began his career as the singer of the protopunk band the New York Dolls in the early '70s. Johansen wrote the bulk of the material for the band, along with guitarist Johnny Thunders. In the late '80s, belated commercial success came Johansen's way under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter, appearing as part of the house band on Saturday Night Live. After the success of Poindexter, in the late '90s Johansen turned his attention in yet another direction, this time to country blues with the release of David Johansen and the Harry Smiths (2000). In addition to his work with the new edition of the Dolls, he continues to host David Johansen's Mansion of Fun, a weekly radio show on Sirius."

About the show: "Born in 1983, Seun Kuti first began performing with Egypt 80, the extraordinary combo first fronted by his father Fela, at age nine, warming up audiences with renditions of his father's songs. After Fela's death in 1997, Seun stepped up to the front of the band, leading the celebrated combo as both lead vocalist and saxophonist. Kuti is determined to speak to the new generation of young Africans born after his father's glory days. About the show: "In the late '90s, German outfit Atari Teenage Riot (ATR) emerged from the electronica genre to subvert all rules of rock and techno music. The band was originally conceived by Alec Empire, and when Hanin Elias, Nic Endo, and Carl Crack joined him on stage, the mixed-race, mixed-sex image of the band provoked people before they even heard the music. This seminal band was too radical in its views and statements and simply too loud and noisy to fit neatly inside any genre. With Elias screaming about police violence and revolution, ATR opened many doors for female artists to follow."

About the show: ""Damn, that white boy can sing!" declared Chaka Khan about Sam Sparro, circa 1994. Born and raised in Australia as the son of a gospel singer, Sparro got his start singing in church before moving to Los Angeles with his family at age 10. After a period of traveling and trying unsuccessfully to launch his music career, he released his six-track EP Black and Gold in late 2007 on the independent Modus Vivendi Music label. The title track, and Sparro's popularity, quickly exploded in the United Kingdom, prompting critics to compare Sparro to legendary artists like Prince, The Gap Band, and Basement Jaxx. He quickly signed to Island Records, which released his self-titled debut album the next year, featuring the tracks "Cottonmouth" and a re-release of "Black and Gold." The album reached the top five on the UK Albums Chart, selling over 100,000 copies. "Black and Gold" also received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

"The next few years saw Sparro tour as a part of an inaugural Wonky Pop tour, collaborate with Basement Jaxx on the single "Feelings Gone," and work with the collective Chauffeur (featuring Theophilus London and Mark Ronson) on the cut "Soles on Fire." He has also released a new track of his own, "Pink Cloud," which featured a video directed by artist and designer Franc Fernandez, and recently collaborated with Adam Lambert on Lambert's upcoming release Trespassing. Sparro is currently putting the finishing touches on his own sophomore album Return to Paradise, due for release this spring."

About the show: "Long adored and critically lauded in the blog world, Atlanta-based songwriter and producer Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, first came to prominence in the summer of 2009 after unassumingly posting a handful of bedroom-recorded tracks to his Myspace page from his family home in the seclusion of the tiny rural city of Perry, Georgia. "I'd been writing music on my own for three or four years previous to that," Greene explains, "mostly as a way to experiment with songwriting processes. Those were just the first I ever shared."

"2011 saw Green release his debut full-length album, Within and Without. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world's best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as "a cool, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper" and as "plaintive but disarmingly powerful.""

"Duncan Sheik broke through in the late '90s with his Top 20 single "Barely Breathing," off his Gold-certified eponymous debut album (1996). After this runaway success, he spent much of the subsequent decade taking a breather from the usual rock singer-songwriter rituals. About the show: "San Francisco's Conspiracy of Beards is a 30-man choir that performs gritty, original arrangements of the songs of Leonard Cohen. Formed in 2003 thanks to the inspiration of the late Peter Kadyk, this a cappella group has become known for its live performances at Bay Area venues such as the Cafe du Nord, the Great American Music Hall, and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, as well as in bars, bookstores, hospices, and various other community centers. The choir has also been featured on National Public Radio's West Coast Live on KFOG, KPFA, and WFMU, on the PBS television station KQED-TV. The group made its East Coast debut in the spring of 2008 at the the Highline Ballroom, Bowery Poetry Club, and other venues.

"Transforming Cohen's simple melodies into complex four- and five-part harmonies, Conspiracy of Beards achieves a sound that is both robust and tender, creating unique arrangements tinged with influences of indie rock, jazz, gospel, barbershop, classical, and doo-wop. About the show: "Founded and led by drummer Dave Watts, The Motet began blending afrobeat with jazz and electronica over 10 years ago and hasn’t let up since.
