Based on user demand, BWW is taking our commitment to arts education one step further with the launch of the BWW Student Center - High School Edition. This directory features upcoming show listings for more than 1500 high schools nationwide with more being added each week. Schools can register for 'enhanced' listings on the site - adding in photos, cast lists, videos, links and more. Productions that take advantage of this will receive highlights on our listing pages, extra editorial mentions and potential spotlight features.
And just like we do with our College Center, each week BWW will be selecting a high-school program and featuring it as our 'School in the Spotlight: High-School Edition'.
Today, we head over to Los Angeles where the L.A. County High School for the Arts has earned this week's High School in the Spotlight! Now in its 26th year and serving over 600 teens from more than 80 school districts, the L.A. County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) offers a college-preparatory academic curriculum and conservatory-style training in the arts. Students interested in attending LACHSA must meet specific academic requirements as well as undergo an audition process prior to being offered admission into a department of their choice: music, visual arts, theatre, film, dance or musical theatre. The school's academic success rate is high with over 96% of its graduates going on to attend four-year college and university programs and many students transitioning to successful careers in the performing arts. Notable alumni of LACHSA include Josh Groban, Corbin Bleu, Michael Longoria, Gavin Turek, Andrew Chappelle, Phillip Attmore, Coby Getzug, Angel Blue, Ryan Scott Oliver, Jenna Elfman, Taran Killam, Dawn Cantwell and Fin Wittrock.
Students at LACHSA have a range of performance opportunities available within each academic year. Up next on the LACHSA stage is the third-year student project 'Big Love' by Charles Mee, 'Wind in the Willows', 'Animal Farm', 'The Beggar on Horseback', 'The Odyseey', and 'The Shakespeare Project'.
