Based on user demand, BWW is taking our commitment to arts education one step further with the launch of the BWW Student Center - High School Edition. This directory features upcoming show listings for more than 1500 high schools nationwide with more being added each week. Schools can register for 'enhanced' listings on the site - adding in photos, cast lists, videos, links and more. Productions that take advantage of this will receive highlights on our listing pages, extra editorial mentions and potential spotlight features.
And just like we do with our College Center, each week BWW will be selecting a high-school program and featuring it as our 'School in the Spotlight: High-School Edition'.
Today, BWW congratulates the Theatre Arts Department at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California for earning this week's School in the Spotlight! Students enrolled in the Theatre program at Dougherty Valley High take a variety of classes including theatre terminology, history, script analysis, characterization, dramatic literature, acting, and improvisation. Students are also immersed in play production which provides an introduction and practical experience to all aspects of producing a play from on-stage to behind-the-scenes.
The Theatre Arts department produces three major productions per year including a musical and student directed one-act plays. Students can also take part in the improv troupe "Something Generic" which puts on performances and also competes with other schools in improv competitions.
Past productions at the school include 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile', 'Footloose', 'Grease', 'Our Town', and 'High School Musical'. Check out photos from past shows here! The 2011-2012 school year began with 'The Laramie Project' and will continue with Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' playing from February 9 thru 12 at the Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center. Tickets are only $10 for Students/Seniors/Children and $15 for Adults. Get your tickets to Beauty and the Beast here!
