The acclaimed North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA has announced its 2007 theatre season, consisting of Crazy for You, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, High School Musical, The Three Musketeers and Forever Plaid.
Crazy for You, the 1992 musical with songs by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Ken Ludwig, will kick off the season from April 23rd through May 13th, 2007. "Audiences will delight in the adventures of a stage-struck New York City playboy in a Nevada mining town — where romance, mistaken identities, and show-stopping musical numbers all add up to irresistible fun," state press notes.
From May 29th through June 17th, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be presented. "When she recited her marriage vows, Milly never realized she would find herself in the wilds of 1850's Oregon, with six rowdy brothers-in-law as roommates." Based on the classic MGM musical, the show features a book by David Landay and Lawrence Kasha, lyrics by Kasha and Johnny Mercer and music by Gene de Paul and Joel Hirschhorn.
High School Musical, based on the Disney TV smash, will have its New England premiere from July 3rd through 22nd. "Gabriella, a shy, brainy new student and Troy, the captain of the basketball team, discover a shared love for singing when they meet at a karaoke contest and decide to audition for the leads in their high school's musical. Can they compete with Sharpay and Ryan, the school's theater stars? And can they keep this newfound passion for music, and each other, alive?"
High School Musical features book by David Simpatico, and songs by Matthew Gerrard, Robbie Nevil, Ray Cham, Greg Cham, Andrew Seeley, Randy Petersen, Kevin Quinn, Andy Dodd, Adam Watts, Bryan Louiselle, David N. Lawrence, Faye Greenberg and Jamie Houston, with music adapted, arranged and produced by Bryan Louiselle.
The Three Musketeers, with music by George Stiles (Mary Poppins), lyrics by Paul Leigh and book by Peter Raby, will play from August 21st through September 9th. "NSMT partners with the prestigious Chicago Shakespeare Theatre to present the timeless coming-of-age story of young D'Artagnan as he joins forces with Athos, Aramis and Porthos to battle the malicious cardinal and save France. En garde!"
Forever Plaid will run from September 18th through October 7th. " This comedy hit follows the Plaids, a fictional 1950's boy band, who have been miraculously brought together for one last performance. These boys will leave you with a song in your heart as they perform hit after hit, including 'Three Coins in a Fountain,' 'Catch a Falling Star,' 'Magic Moments,' and 'Day-O.'" The show features book by Stuart Ross, with music and lyrics by various artists.
The final slot, from October 23rd through November 11th, has yet to be announced. North Shore drops the clue that "this epic show revolutionized the Broadway musical and became the biggest international theatrical phenomenon of the past two decades. Due to contract requirements and a new production on Broadway this fall, we can't tell you the title just yet."
Single tickets will go on sale in spring of 2007.
