High Line Celebrates with Season Kick-Off, CULTURE SHOCK

Friends of the High Line will kick off the High Line's 2017 programming season on Saturday, April 22, with its second annual "Culture Shock" celebration, bringing the park to life with music, comedy, stories, and family activities from 1-6 PM. All events are free with RSVP and open to the public. High Line Food vendors including People's Pops, La Sonrisa, and Melt Bakery will also be open for visitors.

Comedy: Maysoon Zayid
1 - 2 PM, On the High Line at 17th St.
Enjoy this very funny comedic set from actress, writer, and co-founder of the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival.

Live podcast: For Colored Nerds
4 - 5 PM, On the High Line at 17th St.
Join For Colored Nerds co-hosts Brittany Luse and Eric Eddings for a live version of their podcast featuring author Naomi Jackson, New York Times Magazine staff writer Jenna Wortham, and Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl.

Music: Chargaux
5 - 6 PM, On the High Line at 14th St.
Experience soulful, expressive, and genre-bending music from the classical string duo turned contemporary R&B-Electronic-Pop ensemble and art collective Chargaux.
Family Programming
1 - 6 PM, On the High Line at 23rd St.
Families can come to the Construction Zone and build their own city using our Children's Workyard Kit! Live music by Natalia "Saw Lady" Paruz and Brazilian Folk Trio, Forró Da Terra will also get their creative juices flowing.

Spoken word: Queer Memoir
2:30 - 3:30 PM, On the High Line at 17th St.
Join Queer Memoir, New York's longest-running LGBT-themed storytelling series, as they bring together storytellers from all the five boroughs and beyond.


Music: Brooklyn Raga Massive All-Stars
3 - 4 PM, On the High Line at 14th St.
Experience an explosive multidisciplinary instrumental performance rooted in or inspired by the classical music of India. Featuring members of the Arun Ramamurthy Trio and Afrika Meets India.
