From April 26 to August 27, 2012, the Neue Galerie New York will present "Heinrich Kuehn and His American Circle: Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen," an exhibition focusing on the luminous work of this important Austrian photographer. The exhibition aims to situate Kuehn with regard to both the Viennese avant-garde and the international development of photography as an art form. It explores the close friendship among Kuehn and major American photographers Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen. The organizing curator for the project is Dr. Monika Faber, a distinguished scholar of photography.

The early pictorial work of Heinrich Kuehn (1866-1944) was highly influential in turn-of-the-century circles. His photographs were exhibited at the Vienna Secession. Gradually, Kuehn incorporated the influence of his peers, and moved in the direction of Modernist photography. He was also among the first important photographers to create color images. Photographic prints and autochromes by Kuehn will be included in the exhibition.
