Award-winning musician and educator Hayes Greenfield presents the first run series of his Give Me Sound! program, a fun, creative, and highly interactive sound experience for families and kids of all ages, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on eight consecutive Sundays, starting tonight, February 1 at 13th Street Repertory Theatre, 50 W. 13th Street, NYC.

At Hayes Greenfield's Give Me Sound! the audience plays the role of the orchestra and chorus, with Hayes Greenfield serving as maestro for a splendid sonic journey that harnesses kids' sheer love of making sound.

No instruments are necessary because all sounds are made by participants' hands, arms, legs, feet, and voices, as they tap, clap, rub, stomp, and vocalize, under the direction of Hayes Greenfield.

If kids want to bring instruments, however, all are welcome, especially hand-held percussion instruments like pots and pans, shakers, sticks, tambourines, triangles, cymbals, and party noise makers.

Explains Hayes Greenfield, "Starting off with some sound activities that are like games, we'll have fun passing them around and selecting different people as 'conductor.' We'll play with the activities, change them around, or even do them backwards, going in whatever direction our creativity takes. At the end of the performance, we'll create a wonderful 'sound sculpture' of the activities we've done. There's an infectious joy in the process that is positively magical."

Working and playing with sound enhances children's abilities by developing focus, concentration, active memory, creative flexibility, self-regulation, socialization, and hand/eye coordination, while raising self-esteem. Beyond all that, it's just plain fun!

Hayes Greenfield's work with nationally acclaimed developmental neuroscientists from NYU and Pace University informs all aspects of Give Me Sound! The performance program is an extension of The Greenfield Method (TGM), developed by Hayes Greenfield to help pre-K through first grade teachers use sound activities with their students. Hayes has been teaching TGM in schools nationwide for years. In NYC, TGM is taught at two stellar preschools, Basic Trust Day Care and The Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Head Start Program.

Hayes Greenfield's Give Me Sound! represents the culmination of Hayes Greenfield's distinguished career. Hayes has received prestigious awards recognizing all aspects of his creativity: performer, educator, sound artist, recording artist/producer, and film composer/producer (more than 7o films, documentaries, commercials, and TV specials). A veteran jazz musician, Hayes Greenfield has released 10 critically acclaimed albums and traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe performing at festivals, concerts, and clubs with his band. For kids and families, Hayes Greenfield created both the award winning Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz album and interactive family performance program, which he has presented internationally for more than 250,000 children, and counting!
