Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of the Henry James classic The Turn of the Screw will be presented from October 27th through November 12th at the Red Room (85 E. 4th St., 3rd floor).
"A young governess journeys to a lonely English manor house to care for two recently orphaned children. Shortly thereafter, she begins to see apparitions; specters haunting the children and she must find a way to stop the fiends before it's too late," state press materials.
"Viewed through the lens of a rapidly disintegrating mind in which identity, motive and even reality itself, are suspect, the production examines the basic human need for connection & the terrible consequences when that connection is denied. But be warned: this is NOT your mother's Turn of the Screw! Lit only with candles held by each performer, nearly the entire world of the play is created through the performances of the two-actor cast: Erin Cunningham as the Governess & Tim Scott as the Narrator, the Uncle, Mrs. Grose & Miles. Set & Costume Design is by Mimi Maxmen, with Lighting Design by Dana Sterling & Sound Design by John D. Ivy."
The show will be presented by Twenty Feet Productions. Marc Silberschatz directs.
Hatcher's other plays include A Picasso and Compleat Female Stage Beauty.
The show will play: Thurs. – Sun. at 8pm. There will be special shows: Mon.-Tues., October 30-31 and Wed., November 8 at 8pm. Tickets are $15, and $10 for students and seniors
