Harris Diamant's HEADONICS exhibition will open today, September 6 at Luise Ross Gallery in New York City.
Harris Diamant's sculptures merge the arresting beauty of the human face with found objects from optometric apparatuses, springs and orbs, to Masonic symbols. The viewer is confronted with a stark tension between the faces, the detailed mechanization, and the voids in between. Since most of the sculpture is reflective the viewer's image also becomes integrated into the work.
As people today merge themselves with technology, in the form of smart phones, Bluetooth, Google Glass, and Fitbits, to mention a few, Diamant's sculpture echoes this in its merging of the physical body with technical components.
The creation and viewing of this sculpture is an exercise in introspection and search for knowledge, but like any search it can disorient even as it illuminates.
